Trying to cancel order, was wondering if there was a way to do it without calling, as it is off hours right now for their CS line.

since monday is a holiday they wont ship so you should be able to cancel then without a problem if you call them.

for future reference, this isn't a "hot deal" so next time, post in some place like off topic. i know you're new and i would have done the same thing if i were you.

I realize this is an off topic post, but the people in this forum know the most about cancellations and returns, and ive been lurking on this board for over a year, so im not exaclty new.

Here is one experience that I have had with them:

Placed an order 11pm Sunday. Within minutes I realized they are sending it to my billing address and not my SHIPPING address.

Sent them an email instantly telling them about the problem. (BTW, there is a place on their site that you can send them messages.)

Called them Monday 5am PST to tell them the same thing. They said they will "try".

They still shipped it to the wrong address. Their EXCUSE: It takes 24 to 48 hours to act upon inquiries.

I say that is nonsense!!!!

In their defense, they did pay me the shipping cost to re-ship it to the correct address.

BTW: their policy is to ship to the billing address unless you specifically ask them to send it to the SHIPPING address.

I say that is nonsense too.

I ordered with a seperate shipping and billing address and had no problems.. you just gotta make sure the box is checked when you register...

It is my understanding that the order approval process and the actual charge process has at least two elements:

1. Egghead sends the charge/info to your CC for approval.
2. After the order leaves the warehouse and it is in the hand of the carrier, then they actually charge your CC.

If (1) has not yet taken place, I see no reason why you cannot call your CC Company and ask them not to approve your charge.

There is yet another way. Go to Egghead?s site, change your billing address to something wrong and that way your CC would not approve your charge. Let's hope an address change is immediate and does not take "24-48 hours".

Non of the above would work if your order had already been approved.

Lastly, none of the above is guaranteed by me. Do it at your own risk.

Unless something has changed with the way Egghead processes orders since they were bought out, your profile information that is current at the time of the order (Name, Address, Billing Info) is transmitted WITH the order and isn't affected by any profile updates you may make after the order is placed. I had a similar problem and this is what the representative told me ...

This is actually correct (I had forgotten about that). When you order, in the (perhaps) last window they give you a chance to choose which of the addresses you want the mechanizes to be shipped to. However if you do nothing there, the default is the billing address and they would ship it to the billing address and not he SHIPPING address.

I say that is IDIOTIC!

i haven't ordered from egghead since they got hacked; they insist u keep your CC info on the server, which is a horrible practice (especially if it's not optional)... then they just say "oops, sorry" when they get hacked, and don't change a single policy, or offer to have our CC info removed. they get nothing from me from that point on.

My advice is to cancel the charge thru your CC company; that way it doesn't matter if Egghead tries to feed you bs about 24-48 hrs. to get any customer service work done... trust me, it'll be even worse over the holiday. goodluck


edit: heh, funny story Dan; at least the suck in our favor on occasion

That's exactly why I used a one-time number with a dollar limit that was only enough for my purchase. No way would I trust them with my real numbers.

Egghead definitely has problems. I ordered 2 of the SMC routers from them a couple months ago, when it was $100 before $50 rebate, limit 2 per household. One of them died within a couple days, so I wanted to exchange it. They wanted me to go through SMC, or else I could return it for a refund. I pushed, and got them to agree to an exchange instead, and they gave me an RMA number. Since I was going to be driving within a mile of their warehouse the next day, I wanted to just exchange it in person, but they said they couldn't do that. So I called up SMC, since it was only a few miles away from their warehouse as well, and got an approval to do an exchange there. I did, and SMC even gave me an extra ethernet cable for my trouble (not a big deal, but nice nonetheless.)

I never sent anything back to Egghead, and I never used the RMA number they had issued. A few days later, I got an email from Egghead saying they'd received my RMA item, and would refund my CC after they verified that it was in fact broken. A few days after that, I got an email saying they'd refunded my CC. Sure enough, I received a refund for one of the routers. I haven't seen any rebate check yet, and the numbers for those don't show up on the rebate companies website, so I don't think I'll be getting them, but technically I should still get one.

As it turns out, I actually came out slightly ahead, since they refunded the price of one plus half the shipping, so that was a few bucks over what the rebate would have been. Now if one or both of the rebates shows up, then that'd make it a truly HOT deal.

Well I ordered a $2000 laptop from them.It was to ship in 48 hours.After 5 days I called.I was told it should have shipped,and would that day.I waited 2 more days,no shipping notification! I called to cancel,
I was told my cancelation would take place,IF the product did not ship within the next 48 hours.They said
it takes that long to make sure it did not ship,and it might ship before they could stop it! I said BULL,and it better be credited back to my card within 2 days! THEY HAD CHARGED MY CARD AS SOON AS I PLACED
THE ORDER! They did not wait until the item was shipped.By the way,this item was to be shipped by the
manufacturer.It was through their store,not the auction!I had been an Egghead customer for many years!I would not order from them again,if they were half the cost of everyone else!!!!
