New Maxtor 80 Gig.
Maxblast 3.
Win XP Home SP1
Asus P4S8X (latest 004 Bios)

Installed MaxBlast 3 in windows. Shut down.
Installed drive (tried jumpers and Cable Select methods)
Booted to MaxBlast CD. It saw the new drive.
Added as a replacement boot drive (it copied all files from my current 80 GB drive).
Shut down.
Changed cable connectors and jumpers (and also tried cable select).
Bios sees drive. Boot sequence is correct.
New drive as master will not boot (just hangs after post)

I've tried different settings and sequences a million times. Still will not boot.
Took drive back and tried a second drive. Same thing.
I must be missing something.

(Just for kicks, after formatting one time in MaxBlast, I started a new Win XP install and it booted fine when asked to restart PC (then of course it asked to continue install, but I didn't). So I know that this drive can boot. But when I try to use MaxBlast again, it won't (I tried 2 different MaxBlast CD's also)

Please help me keep my sanity!
Thanks,
R2

leave your old drive in (master) and put the new drive in the middle of the IDE cord (slave)
that should get it working, you can copy the original drive again, then switch them out so your new drive is master.

let me know, if you need more detail i'd be glad to help

edit: what is the old drive?

Old HDD is Maxtor 80 Gig. NTFS, 1 partition (in Master postion).
New one set to NTFS 1 partition (in Slave position).
Right now I've been keeping them on Cable Select.
My BIOS detects both drives properly (and in the proper positions).
MaxBlast detects both drives properly.

I boot to MaxBlast CD and run MaxBlast 3. I choose "Set up as a replacement boot drive, and copy all files to the new drive." It formats the drive, then copies all the files (takes 4 hours to copy - egads). When it's done, MaxBlast returns to the main menu. I shut the PC off and reconnect the IDE cable so the new drive is in the master position, start it up and then it hangs after POST.

It seems like either the system files are not copied to the new drive, or that the new drive is not made the "active" drive.
Is there something in Win XP that won't let me copy Windows to the new drive (via MaxBlast)?

I'm at a loss.

Is it true then that Win XP retail won't let me "ghost" the drive onto a new one (using MaxBlast 3)?

Will Drive Image 7 allow me to?
