Help! Can't get mouse to work.

hey everyone

i just bought a logitech first mouse with scroll wheel today (oem). the wire is straight ps/2 (not usb to ps/2). so anyways, on my old p166 machine, i only have serial. so i just used my regular ps/2 to serial adapter and tried to plug the mouse in. windows restarted and didn't recognize the mouse. Now, i also have the *exact* same mouse, except with NO scroll. the non-scroll mouse is also straight ps/2, and it works fine with the adapter. However, when i use the one WITH scroll, it's not recognized. I've had problems like this before where i couldn't get an optical mouse to work when going from ps/2 to serial. Any ideas?

oh by the way, i have yet to try the mouse in a system that has a ps/2 port. i'll do that tomorrow

your "regular" ps/2 to serial adapter might not work.

The retail packages of those PS/2 logitech mice comes with a adapter for PS/2 to serial that should always work.

Did you update the Logitech Mouseware? Check and see what version you have. The current version is 9.24 and you can download it from their website.
