I agree 100%, these are just synthetic benchmarks. But they are the only way we have of comparing systems without putting in the 'human' factor. Well, if you don't like &quot;P4 killer&quot; just call it &quot;P4 contender&quot;.

Everyone says the P-3 is no match for the T-bird. However, in my experience with a P-866 running at 134 on a Abit be6-II compared to a 1Ghz T-bird on a MSI board, I like the P-III. Have no benchmarking numbers to compare, but this P-III Abit combo is sweet. Don't fall for the hype, keep looking for more data. I will say however that I my have some Norton issues on the T-Bird to correct before I can experience the real thrill of the T-Bird.

Back to the subject. I would recommend getting yourself a barebones. You could get a Mid ATX Case with 300ps, motherboard (MSI, ASUS), 1.2Ghz 266Mhz CPU, HSF for under $400. This way you just have to remove your cards and drives from your Dell and install them. Would also recommend you format your hard drive and do a clean install of WIN 98 SE. You would have fewer headaches going this route.
