Could you guys help me to find a good x99 motherboard? I have been reading a crap load of reviews and they all seem to be bad I think I would like a x99 setup to mess around with but seeing all these bad reviews makes me start to second guess this upgrade idea. Was kinda looking at the MSI Xpower AC and the Gigabyte UD4 Or UD5.

I have an Asus X99-A that I'm a pretty big fan of.

Anandtech Review

I have a buddy with an MSI X99S Gaming 7 that he likes quite a bit.

Of the boards you listed, I would go for the MSI before either of the Gigabytes, due to personal experience.

Yeah I used to hate MSI for the longest time from past experience but I gave them a try again a couple years back and now thats pretty much all I buy now. I used to be a Gigabyte guy but I have heard that they have gone down hill big time in terms of quality.
I am trying to keep my eye out for a well priced MSI Xpower board but the one I want is going for $400+ at newegg.I will take a look into that MSI Gaming board you mentioned.
So thank you for your reply.

Be wary of the Gigabyte boards, most of them don't have a full implementation of M.2

Sweet, MSI it is then. Thanks guys. Now all I gotta do is find the X99 MSI Xpower AC for under $400.00. I am going all out on this build so no budget parts this time around. If anyone is wondering why I am buying this mobo it is because it has all the extreme overclocking features I am looking for and tons of heatsinks to keep the mobo nice and cool.

Looks like a solid board! What CPU will you be pairing it with? I assume a 5960X?

Justinbaileyman, if you're not 100% set on the MSI, might I recommend the ASUS X99-Deluxe? I recently built a system based on it, and it's working like a charm.

That's probably the board I would choose if I was building one now..

The one thing that I'm really pleased with is the on-board Wi-Fi. Overclocking is pretty easy, too.

At any rate, I don't think anybody can go wrong with an ASUS board...I'm running a bunch of boards from them and they're all solid.

Yeah, i've always bought asus boards. I like the dual intel nics. I probably wouldn't ever even end up using the wireless on that board.

I dont know about using Asus again. I had a super bad experience with them several times over.First time was with a X58 Sabertooth that came DOA from Newegg.I had to exchange it back to newegg for another that also came DOA no joke and after Phone and Email tag with ASUS RMA for almost a week and a half I got an RMA ok'ed.When I got the board back it lasted maybe 4 months with a 920 overclocked to 3.6Ghz only lightly over volted to 1.25v.Had something very similar happen with a x79 motherboard that had to be RMA'ed due to random boot loops that only happened when first powering on the mobo.Couldnt even get into bios.Long story short I ditched ASUS and Intel and went AMD and MSI.Not had one single problem as of yet after 3 builds knock on wood but I do need more power and greater speeds hence why I am going x99. So I hope you can understand why I am hesitant when I hear the name ASUS.I am so nervous to even buy the x99 platform after reading 75% of all the reviews are bad makes me want to shy away from x99 now.But I am willing to give it a shot if only I could find the board I want for less then $400.00 I am shooting for $300-350.00. I would also prefer not to use Asrock as the boards look very cheap and I dont need anymore headaches then what I've got now.

Yeah, I can understand being hesitant to go with a brand that's burned you before. I'd say if you're spending $300+ on an X99 board, though, the odds are good that you'll get something good.

MSI, ASUS, AsRock, etc. -- all good, reputable brands.

I still have not purchased anything yet. Trying to hold out for Skylake now before I make a huge investment like as in x99.Right now I was kinda looking at grabbing a AM3+ mobo to fiddle with to hold me over till skylake comes. Can get a MSI 970 gaming mobo and a fx8320e for $125 so thats such a great deal I dont know if I wanna pass that up. I know AM3+ is a dead end and its not going to be meant for my main rig just as a backup and like I said something to fool around with.still dont know if I wanna buy into AM3+ or grab a R9 3xx soon as they hit with that $125.00.Any Idea when those R9 3xx are being released?

I'm still going to champion going with a modest X99 board + 5820K. Will satisfy your urge to "get something now" and at the same time should give you a great primary platform with a decent upgrade path.

In other news, I just got a 5930k to 4.4 GHz on the Asus x99 deluxe in 1 night. So far I am liking the OCability at lower voltage.
