Hey guys, winter came.. and my unfortunately I think my MSI mobo died with the cold winter, before I had already soo many issues with it and as such I need a replacement.
Looking for a mobo with CF options, for my 2 290!
what do you guys suggest? Trying to stay out of MSI for a while ...

I have a version 1 of the 990FXA-UD3 above that's still humming. I run my 955 Phenom at 3.8GHz on it.

Did i I mention CHV is really the only one?
if not..it is.
of notable mention: Sabertoof 990fx and TA990FXE
anything else and you're peeing into the wind.

Premium motherboards are not really needed.

If the OP has the budget/willing to spend nearly double what the other recommendations are, then could be an option.

I was looking at both the Killer and the Extreme6, but to further confuse the issue, there is also a Professional that features 12+2 phase power for the best overclocks out of the higher wattage FX CPUs.

I agree with Alky as well. You really don't need a premium board, as most 990s are very similar, but for only $110-120, it trounces the prices we are seeing for the Intel X99 boards (albeit with additional features galore - get with the program, AMD !!)

If your trying to run 5.0ghz+ @ 1.5v or higher, than yes. No complaints about my FX pro r2 and the VRMs stay happy up to around 4.8 @ 1.45v in my experiance with them, after that they need a fan actively cooling the heatsink and behind the socket. We don't even know what chip the OP has to run on it.

With many boards in the field, the Asus M5A99FX PRO is the best bang for the buck and is very stable. A lot of board for the money considering the chip-set. I am not a fan of ASRock or MSI boards for their flaky voltage regulation. Just my experience based on many builds and repair.

I been told Asus had its own bad stories around their mobo, I think most of the companies when trying to innovate eventually they loss it somewhere along the way :ninja:

The ASSRock Extreme 6 is the newest member of the 990FX boards and has the latest Realtek ALC1150 audio CODEC and Qualcomm Atheros Ethernet.

However, I still prefer the older but 12+2 Phase ASSRock Extreme 9 with Realtek ALC898 and Intel Gigabit Ethernet especially if you are intending to run one of the 220W AMD FX 9370 / 9590.

It's what I'm using in my Windows 10 build next year. I've said it before if you can look past the power gulping chipset + CPU I think these AMD FX 8 core chips are going to have a longer than anticipated life since both of the consoles this generation (Sony PS4 / Microsoft XBONE) are using 8-core AMD Jaguar class cores.
