Help choosing good gaming monitor

I'm in need of a second monitor for my desk that will also double as a gaming monitor for my Xbox One. It'll be a second monitor to my Retina Macbook Pro (late 2013 15'') but only used for basics, no video work.

Important to me: Input lag. My ST60 TV has high input lag and isn't fun for gaming. I'd like to colors and blacks to be good, doesn't have to be perfect though. Has to have at least 1 HDMI in. Do not care for speakers.

My main issue is between the VS and VG series ASUS monitors. The VG looks better but I can't tell if its an IPS monitor or not and the VS seem to be good but I can't find reviews of its response time or input lag. Plus, on Amazon the different sizes are not spec'd differently and there is no easy way to determine the difference.

Not looking for anything over 24'' if I can avoid it.

A lot of the concerns around PC gaming monitors simply can't going to apply with a console monitor. Almost all of the monitors have minimal latency (especially in gaming mode) compared to the overall latency of the console input, rendering and output. You aren't going to benefit much from reduced latency monitors or 120hz or anything like that, the current render path latency is so high already the higher end PC kit just isn't really necessary.

That said you will want to get a monitor that avoids scaling, it needs to be 1080p native or you are going to have a lot of extra latency, as you have determined with your TV. TV's often run the scalars and they are sometimes really slow (mine is) so running native and having the scalar off helps quite a bit. Almost all PC monitors run without significant extra latency. Even an IPS monitor is going to come in below about 20ms, which isn't going to matter much on 100ms+ latency of a console.

Awesome. So really any candidate will be best then.

Currently I am looking at the ASUS VS, VG, and Dell S2440L/2340L/2240Ls. I can probably cross the VG off because I don't need 144hz or the extra gaming features. Which would be the best all around of those?

Thats what I am considering, most people wont dish out 800$ for a monitor though. But I have a few u2713hm's that I'll probably sell to get one of these
