HELP!!! Computer NO POST, NO VIDEO SIGNAL!

my computer was working fine yesterday, and today i turn it on and i hear only the hard drive spin up for a second, then it stops

there is no video signal to my monitor either, it's all black
I Can't even see the bios screen!! this sux

i have an

a7v133
800mhz t-bird no o/c
geforce 2 mx
512 crucial SDRAM cas 2
30 gig maxtor hard drive

ok, i tried the hard drive on other computer and it works fine

here is what happens after i press power
-the fans spin up
- hard drive spins up for a second then stops, no activity after that
- no video signal
- no beeps
- no post

please help me

that sounds like a cpu problem. try reseating your processor and reattaching the heatsink and fan, and making sure the fan works. its possible your processor might have died.

does the HD still spin up when you power the computer?
If so, neither CPU, motherboard, or memory have died.

I just had the same happen here, in my case it was the videocard that died. It was a Matrox, replacement on the way.

I still don't know why it just died. Oh well.

If the fans and the HDD spin up, and the LEDs come on, it's most likely the videocard. You could try reseating it.

ok i checked the video card and it works fine in my gateway computer

when i turn on the a7v133 computer with only the video card, i still get no signal

how do i clear the cmos on the a7v133
there is no jumper, but there are two solder points
how and what should i use to short them??

the hard drive still spins up for a couple of seconds, but then stops and there is no activity after that
there is still no video signal on the a7v133

If you can remove the small thing battery, do that, that will clear the cmos the same ways as using the jumper. Leave the batter out for alittle bit, maybe 1/2 hour, before installing it and trying to boot up again.

Check to make sure the mobo is not grounding out on the case or standoffs

This sounds so much like a mis-mounted heatsink. is it one that screws down? if so, your washers may be limiting the contact with the board. it may be too late to resuce the processor.

the heatsink has clips, it's fine because i've used the comp for a year without problems until now

i will check the processor and heatsink..
when I remove it though, will i have to reapply thermal paste again?? If so, how do i remove the old thermal paste from the processor and the heatsink???


Ausm: How do i make sure the mobo is not grounding out?? I have used this at least a year. Can grounding problems just suddenly arise??


i removed the battery for about two hours and replaced it...there is still no video signal (no bios screen or anything, just black)


is the bios version screen supposed to show up even if the hard drive is not connected?? (example: only video card is in and i power on)

Bios screen should show no matter if hd is connected.

Dose your pc make any beeps when you power on? if so how many ?

Make sure that any effort to reset the CMOS includes turning off the AC power either by unplugging or turning off the outlet.

I recently had a friend who had this problem to fix I removed the battery, and unpluged it for a day. It worked ljust fine when I put the battery back in.

Could be a bad mobo, CPU, ram, or PS. Try removing the mobo out from the case, and just hook it up on a table with the PS, 1 stick of ram, and CPU.

If possible, try to borrow or use know good items to try and isolate the problem item.

Work with just 1 stick of ram in slot 1. If you don't have access to another PS, mobo, or CPU, your in deep do-do.
