I recently just bought all my parts to my computer and for some reason the computer turns on for 10 seconds but nothing shows up on the monitor or anything. I think the motherboard or processor are fried but i dont know if they really are so i need help. When computer turns on all the fans are working the hard drives are working and everything else just nothing pops up on the screen and its a huge pain in the ass.

Here are my specs:
Asus p5n32 intel motherboard
Intel pentium D 820
1 GB DDR2 667 *1 dimm gonna upgrade later for dual channel
256 MB XFX 6800 GS Video card
Enermax liberty 500 Watts
3x hard drives 60 gb, 80 gb, 160 gb
floppy, dvd drive, dvd burner, etc

Any help would be nice thank you.

IM NOT SURE but on amd you have to plug the 4 pin ATX and then the 20-24 pin, do you have to do that in intel? if so check. Also wouldnt hurt checking what the PS power is set on, Make sure its 115 not the other one.

EPS12V (8 pin) plugged into motherboard?
Power connected to video card?
Speaker connected to motherboard? any beeps?
Reseat the memory?
Is that stick of ram in the right slot for it to post? Check your manual to see what slot to use for 1 stick of mem.
Try with just barebone devices and see if it still has trouble booting.

Take everything off the board except the CPU (and cooler fan ), one memory stick, and the video card (unless you can use integrated video off the mobo, in which case, take the video card out too). Hook up a PS/2 keyboard to the mobo.

Turn it on and it should post. If successful, add the parts you took out, one by one (with the power off each time!!!) to see where the problem is.

By the way, do you have the intermittent power switch in place? I'm not sure about your system, but the AMD64/ Asus A8N-E rig I built was driving me crazy, refusing to post, when my bithead brother visited and pointed out that problem in 5 seconds. I guess that's what older bithead brothers are for...

Good luck and let us know what happens.

"Re-seat" as in unplug and plug back in again.
Look in the manual to check on the 1 stick of ram.
By barebones, do like BigLar said and only use CPU, heatsink, memory and video card.

Might want to try resetting the CMOS. Check your manual, but this typically involves removing the button batteries from the mobo and moving a jumper for 5 to 10 seconds and then returning the jumper to its original position and replacing the batteries. This worked for me once...

Also, what pci-e x16 slot is your video card in? For 1 video card, the manual recommends video card in blue slot.

Edit: From reading the manual, you don't have the "Ez-Plug" 4 pin molex connected to the motherboard do you? It says to only use it when running vid cards without aux power connectors on the card

I tried barebones and it still does the same thing.
I tried re-seating it too no luck
as for the manual it didnt really say anything so i tried all the slots and it still doesnt work.

EDIT: I've tried resetting the cmos already but not the battery.

Its in the blue pci x16 slot already and i plugged the ez-plug and the aux power on. should i unplug 1 and try other?

Just as a flyer, did the memory stick(s) "click" into place? The "ears" on either side of the stick should move into locked position as the stick is set. If they don't, the memory is not really in place, though it looks like it is. The result is a "no POST".

Is the board in the case, or are you on a bare tabletop? Does the CPU cooler fan turn?

I'm having the same issue with my ABIT motherboard... it was working fine up until today when I cleaned out the case after taking it all apart and putting it back together.

I tried everything you did to no avail. I'm RMA'ing the board and already ordered a new one.

The "Ez-Plug" should NOT be connected since you already have power being plugged into the video card. Unplug the ez-plug and try. However, I doubt this is the cause of the problem.

Give it up for the night, Imposter. Have a couple of beers and work on it during the football games tomorrow.

Happy New Year!

can you pop in some different memory?

I recently built a computer and it powered on just fine for a bit, and when I tried to install windows it would always crash. After a few crashes it just wouldn't start anymore. No beeps, nothing. It ended up being a bad stick of memory.

Try some new memory, Try a different video card if possible, Try a different cpu or motherboard if possible (not likely). If the memory and video card aren't it then rma the cpu+mobo.
