Ok, I like it so far. Almost same height with ruler as my mitsubishi 930sb crt, but alot wider.

I am using DVI. Set color to RGB, which doesn't let you adjust the contrast/brightness.

Putting a PDF in fullscreen, I see backlight bleeding.

What settings should I use for color? Should I be using cleartype? What are your
guys recommended settings?

Text is clearer than my CRT. I do have this washed out feeling about the screen though.

Thanks in advance.

I believe ClearType was specifically designed for LCDs, so I would think you should be using it. I've always thought it looked better myself. I can't recommend for color, but there are gamma tools and such on the net which you could try.

I'm curious... I'm planning to get a new 20" monitor as well, so could you comment on how noticeable you'd say the bleeding is?

First thing to do is to adjust the brightness/contrast on the monitor.

I have contrast at 67 and brightness at 71.
Now if you have a Nvidia VC then go into the CP and adjust the gamma to ~.90 (turning it down), maby a little lower (mines on .88ish) and turn up the digital vibrance ONLY A LITTLE.
You don't need a lot of digital vibrance. (mine is a few clicks on but well into the low part of it.) The more digital vibrance you have, you might cut off a bit of the gradient (not sure high or low)

With the turned down gamma, brightness and contrast it should bring the backlight bleeding to a minimal and make the monitor look really good

Edit: I don't use cleartype but give it a shot if you want (another thing not too good if turned up all the way. Just think of it as AA for your font )

Thanks for the quick replies.

I have an old ATI 9800. Any idea how to adjust with that one?

wizboy, what color setting within the LCD OSD did you select?

It's not the amout of colors but the warmpth of them.
6500k makes white about what it is in the real world.

Edit: I'm sure the gamma is in CCC somewere. Just look for it (somewere with colors adjusting? etc...??? Not sure if ATI has digital vibrance but turning down the gamma is a must.

ATI's digital vibrance is called Saturation instead. Still, I wouldn't recommend it personally.

Not even a little
Mine is on in the littlest amout possible.
Although turning down the gamma probably does a hell of a lot more for the monitor then the DV.

Ok, 6500K color.
Gama @.9

ATI said you could change gama for all colors, or individual colors. I chose all colors.
You could also change gama separately for desktop and 3d. I assume .9 for both?

I still see backlight bleeding, but it is less now.

Thank you.

It'll never completly go away but with all this tweaking you can minimize it to the point were you ONLY see it with a black screen and only if you look hard for it.

Like xtknight said you don't have to turn on the digital vibrance if you don't want to. I personally would, he wouldn't, not sure about you.

Did an ICC profile come on the monitor CD? I'd give that a try. Though the gamma in my VP930b's ICC seemed awful low (perhaps appropriately).

And no, not even a little DV.

You can load them in display properties, under the color management tab in the advanced section.
