I trying to do something new with my comp. Since i got another HD controller, i figured i could delete the old HD controller since nothing is on it. But right after i did that, my comp wouldn't boot into win2k. so now i get the inaccessible boot device error in the middle of loading. is there anyway to manual edit the devices and add the controller back into win2k WITHOUT formatting?

In Win2k and NT there is a function that allows you to boot with the "Last Known Good Configuration." In Win2k I believe you hit F8 when the first status bar comes up while still in the Dos sytle screen (before the splash screen, it will also tell you which key to hit). Once you hit the F8 it will bring up a menu similar to the Win9x Safe Mode menu. There you should see the option to select the "Last Known Good Configuration."

Good call. Or go into safe mode and hope it will find the controller again (Not sure if it will, I've never been into w2k safe mode)

nope..i can't even get that far in either one of those modes. i get up the splash screen..then about half-way it gives the blue-screen-of-death. i'm was wondering if there were some way to force win2k to load specific drivers, jus like with the win2k boot disk. in order for the win2k boot disk to work, i have to hit F6 and then put in a floppy disk with the HD controller drivers. If there were something equivalent to that in normal booting then i'd be fine.

have you tried popping in the win2k disk, booting from it & trying to do a repair? It may allow you to fix some problems from there, or at least get it running enough to get to windows & fix it...

i've never done that though, so i'm not sure how you'd go about that one. hmm

i did put in the win2k boot disks and i couldn't get anything useful outta it. i tried using the emergency recovery, but it didn't work. maybe i'm missing something or not doing it correctly. don't know.
