Recently, my system locks up when I attempt to run software (usually games) when a CD is needed. It will give me the autorun screen, but then lock my system up after the initial game screen appears (with the desktop still in the background). I had DirectX 8.0a and have not changed it prior to this problem, and the problem does not exist for all game, about 40% of them. I attempted to upgrade to 8.1, but that didn't fix the problem. I checked the DirectX Diagnostics and it appears to be running fine. I did get one DirectDraw conflict message after I was able to unlock the system and then run a test, if that helps.
Suggestions? Do a re-install of Windows?? How have you fixed similar problems?
Thanks,
Brandon
