Help: Disintegrated SD Card

Somehow the plastic casing of a camera's SD card broke into numerous pieces while I had the card sitting loose in my waistpack. The contents of the card are reasonably important to me. Aside from the plastic pieces, I believe the resultant circuit board with USB "prongs" is intact.

Does anyone have any experience with a situation like this? I haven't found any vendors selling a plastic shell into which I could put the electronic guts. That would seem to be the optimal solution. I just need to be able to do a one-time copy of the contents to a computer.

Advice gratefully welcome.

If it is important, take it to the pros.
If you must play with it, get a adapter, and try that, you won't be able to find just the shell anyplace.
I suppose you might be able to superglue it back together as well, if you are really careful.

Perhaps buy an identical SD card from the same manufacturer, crack it open... swap guts if possible? (again taking into account what Elixer said above)

i would just buy a cheap usb sd card reader, take it apart, solder very small wire leads from it to the pads on the sd card, then plug it into PC and transfer files. Be very careful not to overheat the SD card while soldering it.

EDIT to add. If you are not very good soldering small components take it to the pros as mentioned above.

I'm quite proficient at soldering. I did something similar: I took an unused USB reader and broke the top surface off, exposing the guts. Laying a known-good SD card on the prongs of the reader, I was surprised to have it not register, even though the LED on the reader changed color. I'm wondering if there's some subtlety that I don't comprehend, perhaps sensing the outline of the card.

Its possible there is a sensor to sense when card is inserted, if so shorting it(the sensor) will likely fool it.
