Anyone know what this error means?

DVD Shrink encoutered an error and cannot continue.

Failed to read file "E:\"

Data error (cycle redundancy check).

Simple. Your DVD is most likely damaged. I can't confirm that until I know that your DVD-ROM is set to E:\, though. An easy way to check if your DVD is damaged or not: can you play the DVD on your PC?

By the way: A cyclic redundancy check is a calculated checksum of data, which basically means a code to identify that data in a short notation. It is used to verify the integrity of data (any errors in the data.) Since DVD's are digital (it either works perfectly, or not at all) you don't have too much hope beyond that, unless you want to hack around... I'm not sure about DVDs but I think the MPEG-2 encoding used has quite good error-tolerance which means there's some exception to that statement ("perfect or not at all"). That means it has parity (extra data in case of errors).

Hmm.. I hope you read my..20 edits.. I edited that post a lot..and might even edit it again in the future . But basically, it's either the DVD, the DVD-ROM, or the software (unlikely) that's at fault. Again: can you play the DVD?

What DVD is it that you are having problems with?

see if DVD Shrinks inbuilt decrypter is able to bypass the encryption, as I've said before I prefer AnyDVD its decryption tends to be more up to date

This error in DVD Shrink is DVD condiiton related: The workaround is to use DVD Decrypter to burn the DVD image to your hard drive, then shrink with DVD Shrink.

Nope - I can play the dvd on the xbox and dvd player but not on the computer. It's really weird.

Try using a different program to rip the DVD to your HD and then use DVDShrink to encode. DVDShrink has problems with ripping DVD's sometimes; I find DVDDecrypter works the best for DVD ripping.

Yep, that's the new Sony ARCOS protection. DVD Shrink doesn't support that yet. Use the awesome free DVD Decryter to rip these movies (and Resident Evil Apocalypse (s/p)). Or buy AnyDVD (and update that to the latest version.

I have not tried The Forgotten. But Little Black Book is problematic. However, all you have to do it check on little setting, and it works fine. Just takes about 3x as long.

It sounds like DVD Shrink is not the problem in that case?

If the DVD cannot be played or read by the PC using other "playback" applications, then it is not a DVD Shrink problem.

Perhaps you could try changing the Master/Slave settings of your DVD ROM drive but I suspect that it is some sort of incompatibility with the actual disk and the PC hardware.
