Help! DVI just died on my Dell 1800FP!

I was just checking my email when my screen went black all of a sudden!

I rebooted and I could tell that it got in to windows fine cause I heard the windows login sound but my screen was stil black!

So I decided to try VGA which works fine.

How can I determine if the problem is with my Dell 1800FP or my Radeon 9700 Pro?

Any help greatly appreciated!

I would try to RMA it if your DVI is really dead.

First I need to determine if it is my Video card or LCD.

I dont have another video card with DVI, so that is not an option

use a DVI to analog adapter just to see if the plugg is dead stilll might be the DVI part though.

Just used the DVI to VGA adapter and that works.

So does that mean the video card is fine, and my monitor is having trouble displaying DVI?

that means it is a problem with the vid card i would imagine

could be a glitch

try reinstalling the driver

According to Dell forums the 1800FP's DVI has a high failure rate. I have done way too much reading about LCD's lately.

Re-installed driver... no luck.

mchammer187: How do you figure that its the video card? By using the adapter that plugs in to the DVI port on my video card, doesnt that prove that the DVI is working on my video card?

I would say it is the monitor, from the DVI to VGA working but you can't be sure until you use another video card with dvi on that monitor. Either way it sucks sorry

I guess you could have missed them because there's only 6000 of them!

I recall some mention of a certain serial number range known to be bad (or worse). Anyhoo, good luck with it.
