Help! FAKE GT240 Nvidia Card From EBAY....

What did you pay for this BTW? I just tried to sell my 512MB GDDR5 PNY GT 240 for $30 starting bid and no one was interested. I like these cards alot, since they are decent performers with no PCI-E requirements, and am glad I still have mine.

People who are paying less than $20 for a video card probably aren't concerned with the actual guts of it.

i found the auction on ebay, it says 1g, no place does it say 1gb. they also have a 220 that says 1g. i did some more searching on ebay, and there is a gt240 9exact same pictures) that lists having 256mb ram (from china).

i think its wrong that they say 1g instead of 1gb, but i am willing to bet they do that so people would assume it is 1gb

The card reports as having a full gigabyte of VRAM when you load its bogus driver. I'm pretty sure that they weren't worried about saying 1g verses 1gb on the auction when they know that they are selling counterfeit cards that are really 7300gt's with 256mb of ram. :S I agree, this is a crime, it is too bad that there aren't any government agencies that would look into it.. Maybe the brooklyn PD? I'll try it.

It depends on the price. If it was only $20-$30, all you can get them for is petty theft. Still worth it to report them to the brooklyn PD and also ebay. Plus, give them terribad feedback on ebay with a link to this thread.

I got riped off from the same ebay seller. Did you get your card reflashed? I have two cards I saved the bios file but I cant re flash using nvflash -p -r -u gt240.rom
My rom file is 60K in size. I only see text while the computer posts, when I boot to dos the video goes black, I cant see anything so I am entering the nvflash commands blind. I tried nvflash for windows nvflash -4 -5 -6 gt240.rom but again I am entering the commands blind. Any ideas ples reply.

I can't remember all the details, but awhile back there was an Ebay seller peddling GeForce 8 Series (e.g. 8500, 8600, 8800) "AGP" cards, but they were just a GeForce 6 or 7 AGP board with modded BIOS and drivers.

A quick Google search came up with a number of 128MB 7300GT cards (and even more if we expand it to the entire 7300 series). But like I said it's likely not a 7300GT given how few memory chips it has.

Just to nitpick an old, old post...my family actually has a 512 MB 7300 GT.

I sold mine for $40 really easily in 2011, since they are about 2/3 the speed of a 8800GT which still wasn't that bad back then, but these days with so many iGPUs and APUs, there may be less demand. Maybe try selling it as a HTPC card.
