I've found a few deals around lately.

Bestbuy is selling the Viewsonic VX910 19" LCD, 16ms w/DVI and 1 year warranty for $450 in store with a $50 mail in rebate.

CompUSA is selling the same monitor in store for $580, $80 instant rebate and $100 mail in rebate.

I looked at it at both stores. Neither one was using a DVI cable. Seems the Compusa lighting was better or something compared to the one at Best Buy, but they're the same thing...

Anyway, here's a link to the PDF:
http://www.viewsonic.com.sg/pr...9/E-VX910-09302004.pdf

I also went in to a specialty gamer store to ask them. They recommended the ADI a905:
http://www.adiusa.com/lcd/a905.html

This one has 15ms response, is 50nits brigher, 50-100 better contrast, has built in speakers (don't matter to me), has a three year warranty, and costs ~$550.

I haven't even seen the picture on the ADI but I'm leaning toward that one for all the reasons in the previous sentence. Anyone have any input on these? I don't really want to spend as much as the fp2001.

I also am using a NEC 19" CRT FD991sb (superbright). I'm wondering if I just shouldn't get a really fast 17" which has about the same viewing area. Ideas plz.

hmmm.

Well, I don't really need another USB hub (my NF7-Sv2 has eight and only three used). The 2001fp has 450:1 contrast, and these others are higher.

I really don't know much about LCDs generally speaking. I did read Anand's review on how to buy a good LCD but really it wasn't as helpful as other reviews he's done.

I do want it to replace a 17" ADI CRT I bought five years ago, which I'll relocate to my other pc as a second monitor for modding.

I think in order of most importance I need no 'ghosting'. DVI is a must, and I'd be happy if the LCD came with a DVI cable (the VX910 didn't come with one thus total cost increases). Large viewing area compared to my 17 & 19 inch CRTs. My computer room is quite dark (owing to the blanket jimmy rigged up in the window) so I don't know that 700:1 contrast is necessary, but 400 or 450 seems weak by numbers.

Half Life 2. Halo. Morrowind. UT04. CoD. MOHAA. SW Battlefront. NFSU. These are the types of games I want to play on it.

I have an ADI a905 here at work and though I have never gamed on it I love it! I am tempted every day of hte week to just play some UT2k4 or something on it. If your in AZ gimme a shout and you can come by and test one out. I believe that we don't have any in stock accept the floor models but I can check. BTW the floor models are in mint to near mint condition and I haven't seen a dead pixel on one yet. I am looking into snatching up one of them in the near future.

BTW: they do come with a DVI cable, and I will test one if I get the chance in the near future. I have UT2K4 and NFSU2 I can test it with. It is more just a matter of having the chance and time. I just got hired at this job like 3 weeks ago and they are bouncing me around a lot.

if i am not mistaken, most good gaming lcd's start over that.... you may want to go with a CRT for gaming (of course i could be incorrect)

good luck and let us know what you find and decided on!

There are a couple ways of looking at it. If you are going to be doing FPS games and you can noticably see the speed differences or the ghosting on an LCD it may be a better idea to stick to CRT's. But, if you are going to be gaming for extended periods of time, like a coupel hours on end, the LCD is going to be a lot easier on your eyes. Personally I think the lcd's are well worth the investment to save your eyes. I have a CRT at home and I am steadily going blind because I tend to game for two days almost non-stop on the weekends. My eyesight has literally dropped from beind 20/10 in one eye and 20/15 in the other to 20/20 in one and 20/25 in the other. That is a pretty big drop in the last three years considering I am only 19 now.

Check out the Viewsonic VP912B. It looks like it might be a pretty decent gaming 19'" LCD
