Help finding EPYC motherboard

Hi all,

I'm looking for a workstation level motherboard for an EPYC processor and am finding rather skimpy results.

I only need a single processor. The only one I found had 10gbit Ethernet with a funny connector for fiber that I can't use.

I'm expecting to use the machine for EMC and RF simulations with a GP100 card and need the 8 memory channels for bandwidth. I like the idea of a single processor to get my memory bandwidth which is why I'm looking at the EPYC vs. a dual Xeon. Cheaper, too.

Thanks, but I'd rather put it in a standard tower than a server slot.

That would be problematic given that boards dependence on riser cards.

OP: A single socket SP3 board is kinda counter productive. The market for a system that exceeds what Threadripper can provide but only want a single socket would be exceedingly small. My recommendation would be:

He's very clear why he wants a 1P board - for eight memory channels from one CPU, not PCI-e expansion.

To the OP, you could just get a 10GbE Intel network card if that's what you want.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I was explaining why he's not finding many results.

My point regarding the PCIe slots (which he already stated he will be using) was if you put the suggested Tyan board recommended by sdifox in a standard tower case that supports EATX boards, you're going to find it difficult to use any PCIe cards.

What he will probably want is something like one of the H11SSL models from Supermicro when they hit. I think the big hold up is that AMD has only just started to ship Retail versions of the chip recently. Give it some time and Asus and co will have more workstation oriented boards for it.

I did see that Supermicro board which is pretty similar to the Gigabyte.

Yes, it seems just a bit early for an Epyc system.

I'm fine with a dual socket board too and just using one if they work that way.

I don't need 10 gbe, just a single gigabit port. Supermicro had a board but still had the dual 10gb fiber. Hate to spend 700 on a motherboard and have to add a silly Ethernet card, plus pay for expensive bits i don't need.

I'm not familiar with the work you're doing, how much performance are you actually gaining with 8 channel memory vs 4? If you can wait, I'd agree with with Topweasel on the H11SSL But the professional side of me then asks why you're not going prebuilt, are you sure about your requirements, etc.

Memory bandwidth is the limiting factor. I'm doing EM simulations with CST. I built a nice box 3 years ago but may need a new one soon. It saves me 15-25% to build it myself. And I've been building boxes since 2001 and just enjoy it.

It is better to get the whole EPYC server - ASUS RS700-E9-RS4 is really high core count server.

If I was buying a prebuilt box of this class, I'd want it from a company with far better support than Asus.
