I've been doing some research on why my DVD drive doesn't read regular CDs but plays DVD just fine
I am running Windows XP
Toshiba DVD SD-c2502 on a Compaq Presario 700 laptop (running Ultra DMA mode)
there are two types of formats for writing discs
-UDF (DVDs,CDRs and CDRWs are written in this format)
-ISO (regular CDs and music CDs as well)
I've tried flashing my DVD rom firmwear and tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive and it still cannot read regular CD roms.
I think it might be at the OS level where the DVD rom cannot read ISO formats but can read UDF formats. Whenever I try to run a regular CD or a music CD, I get
"Windows cannot read this format...disk maybe corrupted"
Note: The disk I tried to run are official MS disks and other legit CD roms (not burned).
can anybody help?
