I've been awol from gaming since Bioshock1. Which are some of the games which you guys consider must-play-industry-leading games since then which I have missed?

Bioshock 2?

Just kidding. It's a decent game but there's better things to catch up on.

I'm not sure on dates so some suggestions may be off. If you haven't payed Mass Effect 1, then do that then play Mass Effect 2.
Batman Arkham Asylum was fantastic and the new one is out soon.
Deux Ex: HR is quite new and lots are having a good time with it, though it's kind of a love it/hate it type of thing it appears.
The Witcher 2 is a great RPG and much improved over the first, and if you never played the first you could jump into 2 pretty easily without missing much.
Fallout: NV is good, and worth playing if you played Fallout 3 or not. If you didn't like Fallout 3 though then it didn't change much.

Also, what kind of horsepower are we dealing with in your PC? Not sure if you'll be able to play things like The Witcher 2 without knowing what you have.

I like Bioshock 2; I'd give that a spin. (It's cheap as hell everywhere, any how.)

And I second the FO:NV & Deus Ex HR. Both fun games.

portal 2 and Deus ex:HR

Thanks for the all the tips. It beats trawling thru wiki games list (>900 in 2007 alone). My planned build will be a budget level pc, gfx will be something along the lines of a GTS450/6770. Will be content with low/med res gaming.

I enjoy mostly beat-em-ups/FPS, some RPGs. No RTS except for RomeTW which was truly remarkable for its time. Not into adventure except for multi-genre titles like Deus Ex (action-rpg-adventure).

I enjoyed Fallout/Fallout2 tremendously and will definitely try Fallout3 which I missed. I liked FEAR alot and it came out in ~2005ish and I also bought Oblivion about the same time.

Back then 4:3 resolutions were the norm, Will 4:3 resolutions like 1024x768 be squished or stretched in current LCD/LED monitors?

Edit-
I'd want to replay MW4 and also some DOS games in Dosbox. Any problems to anticipate in Win7?

sins of a solar empire is pretty highly regarded. i suggest going thru steam's $5 and $10 bins for some fun cheapies. what's your budget? i, and others, can help with a parts list.

Thanks for Solar empire tip.
I already have a good idea of what to get from my own checking. Any tips from my question about resolutions in my previous post?

any 4:3 resolution is going to be weird on a 16:9 screen, and i don't know of any way to add bars to the sides to make up the difference. you could run it in a window, but there will be a performance hit for sure. i generally don't like games in windows just because i mouse outside of the window and screw everything up.
