Today is the coldest today in a long long time with low at 7 degree tonight. To make it worse, I came home from work only to find out my power garade door couldn't close. The door goes down a foot then moves back up. AAARGH!

Anyone had similar experience? Any advices greatly appreciated.

Check the sensors. Something might have gotten bumped so it thinks something is in the way.

i agree - sensor issue. if it gets too cold - use force. it might break - but hey - you will be warm

This exact same thing just happened to our garage door.

In the main unit, there should be two power adjustment screws, one for down force, one for up force, turn them both up about 10 degrees. Worked like a charm.

OMG. You're right! There are 2 adjustment screws on the back of control unit. I turned the down force adjustment screw clockwise. and IT WORKED!!
wow, thanks, dude. PM me your address, I'd like to send you a small gift.

Also thanks to all who offered advice!

The cold probably warped the metal slightly out of shape, and that's why it took more force to close it.

yeah, i bet you're right. This extreme cold weather can surely cause a lot of damage...

Just be careful to not use too much force to make it close if it doesn't want to, as it could possibly break some part of the mechanism. Extreme cold can make some metals pretty brittle.

The manual says it's normal to need adjustment in cold weather and as the unit ages.

The adjustment screws in our unit go up to 10, they're currently on 2 and a half. I think it's fine. Keep the adjustment changes small and there shouldn't be a problem.

Mine does the same thing when it is cold.

I have to hold down the garage door button until the thing is shut. My sensors are lined up perfectly.
