[Help] GPU Recommandation

Hello all!

I want to buy a graphic card and I have 3 options:
1) R9 380 4GB
2)GeForce GTX960 4GB

3) Or, maybe, to wait couple of months and buy a GTX 970.

The idea is that I want a gpu that can resist in time / performance. I mean in 3 years to be able to play games at 25-30fps, not all settings at ultra.

I'm not a hard-gamer, I just want to play when I want, what I want, at a good performance, you understand me.

Lowest price in my country for those 3 GPUs: 1) and 2) ~204$
3) ~307$

What do you say? Which is my best option?

LE: My build: I7 2600K, 8GB HyperX Genesis 1600mhz, Sirtec High Power Element Bronze 600W, Barracuda 1TB SATA 3.

Do you overclock your cards? If so I'd go with the gtx960 4gb.
If not, the 380.

How much are 380X's in your country?
I have a gtx960 4gb, while it does play most games at high settings now @ 1080p, it will soon be too slow by the end of the year in my opinion. Same for the regular 380.

I would not buy either now, I would wait a few months for new cards to release.

The new Nvidia 1070 should be coming out to replace the Nvidia GTX 970. Instead of saving a couple of months for a gtx 970, save up til the new GTX 1070/1080 come out. Then buy whichever you feel you need. It will last you a long time if you game at 25-30 fps. I'd guess 5 years but DEFINITELY 3.

What's your opinion about 970? It's worth waiting and buy it for 310$?

I think that the new upcoming graphic cards will not be better than a 970 in the 300$ price range..

I think that the upcoming cards will have some very strong contenders in the $300 range. AMD's definitely leading with smaller chips that should fit into that range and should provide some very solid performance.

300$ is the very top limit for me. I wouldn't pay more than 300$, it's not worth for me. (normal price, here, for a 970 is ~385 usd, but with promotions and etc I can end up find one at 300$)

Depends on how much you think it's worth it.

Would you rather pay $300 for 70% of performance, or $350-$360 for 100% of the performance.

The GTX 1070 will be a lot faster than the GTX 970. A LOT. Also, it will make the GTX 970 cheaper to pick up, and cheaper to buy used. So either way you win. It's a no brainer choice to be honest....

I agree on holding off for now - all indications are that the new cards coming out this year are going to be strong mid-range cards that should fit in your budget. When you're going for longevity it is usually a good idea to buy cards earlier on the curve than later.

I'll also note while I usually avoid fighting for team red or team green, since you're looking at longevity, AMD cards tend to be more future proof recently. Whether that trend holds or not is hard to predict, but it's something to consider.

I understand. I will see the future offers for 970, and if nothing will be good enough, I will wait until the new cards will arrive here, in my country.

But I'm expecting that with the "boom-release" of new cards, the prices will be too big at the beggining (2-3 months), and after that the GPUs will have the real price on the marker for their real value.

Possibly - if AMD or nVidia release a mid-range card with performance closer to today's high end cards the pricing pressure on existing the existing high end and mid range is going to be immense. I think buying a card for long term use would be ill advised right now personally, but that's just me. I don't like to buy at the end of a generation and this one has been especially long due to the slow move to smaller processes. The pricing of existing cards is going to come down and provide bargain opportunities or the new cards will be good enough to actually justify holding out a bit.

You're right..I think that I will make my choice based on the offers that will show up...

one thing to take into consideration, look at how Kepler has aged in the past 3 years compared to AMD's GCN. A noteworthy trend to account for when wanting a GPU for 3 years.

I'd say buy a used 390

Yes they will ,and no ,now is not the time to buy a gtx970/390 or any other card 180$ and up.

Do yourself a favor and hold your money, you will not be sorry.

About 2 or 3 months at most.

I vote for used 290. Mine just mined (pun intended) half its purchase price. 2 months and you have free GPU and count profits!
