Help! GTX 280 blocking SATA ports

I just bought a GTX280 and this massive card extends across my sata ports on my motherboard when it's plugged into the x16 pci-e slot. I am currently using 6 of 6 SATA slots for a RAID 5 so moving the SATA cables is out of the question. I currently have the GTX 280 in a pci-e x4 slot which I assume is not ideal. I would like to move the GTX to the x16 slot, assuming that using the x16 pci-e slot will bring a perceivable performance increase.

I have already tried using right angle SATA connectors and it didn't work. The right angle connectors overlap each other and the graphics card will not seat properly. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My motherboard is an ASUS P5K Deluxe for reference. Thanks.

I had the same problem, I ended up just returning it and bought a X48 board (Rampage Formula).

Yeah nice that you could return it. I've had this board for close to a year. Replacing the board would not only cost me an upwards of $200 but would be a major PITA.

I was looking at left angled SATA connectors. These might solve the problem because they would not overlap. The only worry would be routing the cable around to the hard drives but that should not be to difficult provided they are long enough. My local shops don't carry left angled connectors, so I got to buy them online.

Bad design by ASUS on the SATA ports. They should know better. I shouldn't expect problems like this on a premium board.

Its only recently that the motherboard manufactures have had to overcome that design flaw. If you can't afford a new motherboard then maybe and SATA controler would be a better option. You could see better performance from your Raid 5 on a new controller. Problem is backing up your data and rebuilding the raid.

Motherboard manufacturers haven't always had to deal with the fact that new graphics cards are physically massive, and even then it's only the highest end cards that are huge enough to cause problems. Unfortunately I don't think they consider it much of a priority but if you get some right-angled cables (I have a few and they're much easier for tidying cables) you should be grand.

The GTX 280 covers 4 of 6 sata slots on my motherboard. I believe the easiest solution would be to get two right angled plugs and two left angled plugs. Four right angled plugs will not work as they will overlap each other.

I just ordered two left angled 36" SATA cables from here.
