Glad u didn't mess up your wall. Never know what anchors will look like on the other side.

Thanks for the quick responses. I dug out some space around it and just pushed it into the wall. Hopefully it'll look fine when I spackle over it.

I was gonna recommend this.

Easiest solution I've found for this issue.

OP, please make an effort to learn about home maintenance and repair. DO NOT wait til something major breaks down. DO NOT give a mental shrug and say to yourself, "I'll just call the professionals. "

whatever you do, DO NOT attach elastic bands to that screw thinking you can exercise with it. That screw is not load bearing!

Is this thread about cool starry bras and electrical shorts or is it about a mouse that popped out of your AC and then found it's way to electrical wiring just below a boat anchor and then chewed the insulation off wiring?

Why? What could possibly go wrong?

A little spackle will fix that right up.

love this thread

I had never used wall anchors until a couple weeks ago. I always found a stud and screwed into it. But I had to mount some crap here at work and there were no studs to be found (where were you highland?), so I had to use anchors.

The first two I used went directly through the drywall. Bye bye! Guess those things don't stop on their own? The next two I used too big of a screw and they started to go through as well. Finally on my 5th attempt I figured out the process. One of these days I will spackle and paint my mistakes. Right now I leave them there to remind myself what a dumbass I am.

Yeah, anchors can build up some serious momentum.

Edit:Lack of experience does not = dumb ass. And be glad you did not burn your place down.

Now that I know how to deal with those anchors all that's left is to figure out what color to redo the wall. I don't get direct sunlight in my place, so I thought going with a lighter wall color might brighten things up. I don't want it to look stupid though.

(Please forgive my awful camera)

My next task will be putting up a ceiling fan in my 2nd bedroom. I heard I need to cut off electricity or else I could kill myself. Is it better to just cut off all power to the condo altogether?

Yeah, kill all the power. You don't know if the person who wrote the descriptions on the breaker box door was correct or complete even if that person was you.

Ceiling fans are easy. Just attach the fan to the outlet box and you're good. The wire colors in the ceiling never match the wire colors on the fan but that's why God made sparks and smoke so you'll know which way is the wrong way.

Power off...yes. And that looks like a self balancing fan from the "ball" on top. If, for some reason, it isn't...take it back.

quit looking at his balls
It's only half on one ball. Not a problem, right?
It's not good enough to turn off the light switch?
Because someone could have wired to the light and then to the switch....better safe than dead. OP could get a line tester if he's going to continue doing his own work.

What does "self-balancing" do?
It evens out the crystals in your inner ear so your don't get vertigo.

The older/cheap fans did not self balance so you would have to put weights on the blades so it would not wobble at high speeds. Trial and error.....PITA X 10
