HELP! - How is the Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard packaged?

I received my mailorder Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard today. The motherboard cardboard box was however neither shrinkwrapped in a plastic wrapper nor did it have a tape. I could open the box without having to cut through anything. The motherboard itself was wrapped in a plastic cover inside the box and taped.

Is this how the motherboard is usually packed or do you think I received a previously owned/returned motherboard? Hope those who ordered and received the same board or even any other Asus P4P800 board (std or VM) can help.

Yes Bawaji, this is how new motherboards are packaged. Not sure why shrinkwrap is not used but my current board (yours) and my last board (Abit) were both 'new' and did not come in shrinkwrapped boxes.

As far as whether the board was previously bought - well, I guess you have to rely on an honest vendor. By law, they cannot sell you a previously opened item as 'new'. So hopefully you bought yours from Newegg or somebody else reliable.

Adios and don't fret about it too much. Main thing - does it work?

Thanks for your response. I was getting worried and wanted to be sure before installing the board.

I have not yet installed it, so don't know if it works. Guess it will be a weekend project -- more like late night tonight --- don't think I can wait! Hope it goes well.

Update 7/2/03: The board has been working fine after a few hiccups which were from my ignorance. It has run docmemory and memtest86 for 4 hrs each with no problem. I am putting it through its paces with Prime95. More testing and benchmarking will be done after I get my second 512MB stick!

Since we are on this topic, what all do you get in your box? Ive read they dont give you round ide cables and no usb brackets so you can only use 4 usb ports, instead of the 8? What else do they leave out?

The things included in the packet for the Asus P4P800 Deluxe were:

3. 4 cables (I haven't opened the plastic packet yet but they appear to be 1 floppy cable, 2 80-wire IDE cables, and 1 40-wire IDE cable)
4. 3 jumpers
5. One I/O cover
6. Packet with keyboard cutout and stickers for Instant Music (which unfortunately does not fit my keyboard!)
