I have killed 6 300 watt power supplies on my new system! Has anybody ever had this problem overclocking on an MSI k7T turbo Raid mb with 1gig T-Bird running at 1466 11*133. My system is listed below! Anybody have any suggestions? Do I just need a more powerful Power Supply?

I am guessing that you need more power, you have a lot of drives and are running really fast. So you can draw a lot of power from all the different voltages, which probably heats them up real nice. Get a bigger better cooled on. Something like an Enermax 450.

That's what I think to! It ran fine for 3 days at 1466. It didn't die the first time untill I added the 2nd network card and 2 sticks of OCZ PC150 ram. (I started with 1 stick of PC133 ram). It ran for a day with the PC150 ram before it died while I was trying to Format a CDRW.
Thanks WarCon

Geeze, maybe you have bad house wirring. Though I guess you could try a bigger supply, I'd get something close to 400watt.

I doubt this can only be related to the effect you draw from the PS. One bad PS is ok, but not 6 of them. House wiring sounds possible, or maybe a faulty motherboard. Have you done any wiring yourself btw, with fans or stuff? Could be a short circuit somewhere... But then I guess a simle fuse-swap would heal the power supplies...

*Addition* Personally I'd check the wiring and maybe get a new motherboard...

ya its highly unlikey that you will kill a ps simply because its not powerful enough, let alone 6 of them.

I'd suggest a line conditioner to rule out house power. I've had to get on for my house, since the power here is so bad(I turn on my desk fan and the light flickers :\) I got a Tripp-lite LC-1200 here. I haven't had a PSU burn out since, and I feel a lot better about the safety of my box.

OVERCLOCKING IS AN ART AND A SCIENCE !!>

You simply can not take peacemeal components and expect a system to function.

EVERY single component MUST conform to the entire design spec !!

The most overlooked component in any system is the CASE !!!.

Don't just get an AMD approved Power Supply, GET an AMD approved, Electrical, Mechanical, and SAFE environment for that super Computer Chip !!.

Go figure out the rest, but its REALLY simple if you start and
www.amd.com ~!

WHO is YOUR Daddy !!

I bought the case from the local computer store! It was AMD approved. At least they build all there AMD systems with the same case. When I took the 2nd and 3rd power supplies back to the Computer Store where I bought them The Tech there said it was my system and hooked it up to his power supply there. (saME TYPE THAT i HAD ALREADY BLOWN!) It blew also. Then he put another one on it but this time only the Hard drives where connected. Then we connected the rest of the stuff one part at a time restarting each time! We got everything hooked up again but this time we where only running @ 10*133. It was running fine. I got brave and went back to 11*133. It started up and posted into windows no problem. Then about 2 minutes in it killed the 5th 300 watt power supply! By this point the guy at the store had had enough and he told me to clock it back down to 1333 and he gave me 2 more power supplies and sent me on my way! (He takes pretty good care of me! Let me hand pick my 1 GIG AVIA T-Bird) I got home hooked up 1 of the new power supplies but this time didn't hook up 2 80mm fans. it started right up and booted no problem into windows. Thought that would solve the problem and set it back 2 11*133. It ran fine for about 20 minutes. Got on the internet and everything. Then Dead again!!!! 6th Power supply gone. I am now running it at 10*133 no problems! I order a 400 watt PS.

Were all 6 the same brand? I know quite a few people with similar rigs running on 300w ps. And they usually act up, crash, refuse to boot..not just pop the supply...strange..
