Anand got married, invited all of us to his wedding and paid airfare...it was a big ol' bash...and then gay marriages were legalized so Skoorb left MrsSkoorb and ran off to Vermont with Gobadgrs...and sodomy was legalized so Red Dawn..well..enough of that. Oh yea, and wduaqnug was revealed as a Saudi militant financing terrorists in the NYC area so he's now at camp X-Ray.

Agreed, though by his account of "3 months," it sounds more like he was in Marine Boot Camp. Our is the longest at 13 weeks, while the army's comes in at 9. Of course, he could be just rounding up or counting additional training.

What throws me is that generally, Marine boot camp graduates are VERY proud of graduating, and make it explicitly clear that they graduated from MARINE CORPS boot camp. We'll have to see.

edit: i dont think the army isolates you in terms of world news.

Ha, I was isolated from the news for almost 4 months at Ft. Jackson. I week inprocessing, 8 weeks basic, and then AIT. I never got to read a paper except occasionally on Sunday if the Drill Sergeant was feeling good.

I know I know, I went through basic in 3rd Batt., 3017 to be exact, at PI in '82 and heavy equip. eng. school at Court House Bay at Camp Lejuene. I just don't wanna accept that a maggots first thought after leaving basic is CS.

hahaha i won't flame you, because your utter ignorance is more humorous than angering. You think people join the military for the pay? Cmon now. Did you join AT for the chicks? You don't have to be an einstein to figure out that there must be SOMETHING more the mililtary has to offer than bad pay. For the Marine Corps, those things are esprit de corps, serving one's country, and knowing that you're now one of the few and the proud: the world's finest.

Negative on #2, ghost rider. US military now does random urinalysis to determine if you've been high. Drugs have a strict "zero tolerance" policy. I knew a guy who was a stellar Marine but got drugged by someone else at a party and they still kicked him out with a bad conduct discharge, gave him jail time, and reduced his rank to private. That's a FELONY on his record. Not good.

Sounds like a moron not a stellar marine! The only way he would even have gotten a felony conviction is if he went to court martial. And if he did, he had a really sh!tty lawyer. No lawyer should have let his client go to court martial with the defense "someone drugged me at a party". I got popped on a peepee test and got knocked from pv2 to pvt with 45 days restriction/extra duty and lost 2 months pay. They go a lot harder on you if you try to weasel out of your responsibility.

You're wasting your time arguing with Ylen13. He is in his own little world where money and being self-centered is everything.

I believe strongly that about 75% of the Army don't do it to serve their country. They join because they are too lazy or stupid to do anything else. I can't even count how many turds I came across during my two year stint. The majority just need somone to tell them what to do all the time because they lack the ability to take care of themselves. Exercise! Now eat! Don't forget to go to work! Then theres the real A-holes who get off on telling someone else what to do. Not because its mission critical, just because they can.

It sure has one hell of a retirement plan if you get up there in rank and can put up with 20 years though. Those guys deserve some respect just because they dealt with it so long.

was kill myself after I found out how much better C++ Programing was...ohh...wait...you're talking about
something else. Sorry. My bad.

Only way he would have gotten a felony is court martial? ANY bad conduct/dishonorable discharge is a felony on your record. And in the Marine Corps, you don't have any other choice. You get caught with drugs, you're going down. No if's, and's, or but's. It's an automatic kick out the door. A few years back some sergeant was drugged at a party and had his wallet stolen and went STRAIGHT to his command to report it. He popped on the test a few days later and they STILL fvcked him for it, even after they caught the guy who was going around drugging people. He was reduced down to pvt and kicked out. They dont play games here.

Ouch. Good thing i decided to enlist in the Marines. We have our share of worthless people too, but the overwhelming majority are good people who work hard and serve their country honorably.

One hell of a retirement plan? I dunno. I consider a good retirement plan one which doesn't require me to work after i retire. Who can afford to live on $1400 a month with a decent standard of living?
