Agreed, though by his account of "3 months," it sounds more like he was in Marine Boot Camp. Our is the longest at 13 weeks, while the army's comes in at 9. Of course, he could be just rounding up or counting additional training.
What throws me is that generally, Marine boot camp graduates are VERY proud of graduating, and make it explicitly clear that they graduated from MARINE CORPS boot camp. We'll have to see.
edit: i dont think the army isolates you in terms of world news.

Ha, I was isolated from the news for almost 4 months at Ft. Jackson. I week inprocessing, 8 weeks basic, and then AIT. I never got to read a paper except occasionally on Sunday if the Drill Sergeant was feeling good.

Negative on #2, ghost rider. US military now does random urinalysis to determine if you've been high. Drugs have a strict "zero tolerance" policy. I knew a guy who was a stellar Marine but got drugged by someone else at a party and they still kicked him out with a bad conduct discharge, gave him jail time, and reduced his rank to private. That's a FELONY on his record. Not good.

Sounds like a moron not a stellar marine! The only way he would even have gotten a felony conviction is if he went to court martial. And if he did, he had a really sh!tty lawyer. No lawyer should have let his client go to court martial with the defense "someone drugged me at a party". I got popped on a peepee test and got knocked from pv2 to pvt with 45 days restriction/extra duty and lost 2 months pay. They go a lot harder on you if you try to weasel out of your responsibility.

I believe strongly that about 75% of the Army don't do it to serve their country. They join because they are too lazy or stupid to do anything else. I can't even count how many turds I came across during my two year stint. The majority just need somone to tell them what to do all the time because they lack the ability to take care of themselves. Exercise! Now eat! Don't forget to go to work! Then theres the real A-holes who get off on telling someone else what to do. Not because its mission critical, just because they can.
It sure has one hell of a retirement plan if you get up there in rank and can put up with 20 years though. Those guys deserve some respect just because they dealt with it so long.
