What if I accidently put it in the wrong orientation and clamped it down? Would that break the chip? It would probably break it if I tried to power it on huh?

The CPU would most likely be fine. The pins on the mobo, now that's another story.

I hope it will still work. Hey what were the key components needed for a complete POST? CPU, Mobo, V card and ram?

You don't need the V card if you have onboard video.

Ah i see, hey what are the exact issues with misorienting the chip and then trying to power it up? Broken pins or whatever? I hope thats not what happened to me. Hopefully its the mobo thats dead.

Did the chip fit snugly onto the motherboard? I remember from my installation that it was kind of hard to push down the lock even with the chip in place. I would think that it would be almost impossible to lock the chip in if you orientated it wrong. IF you did somehow do this, then possibly some broken pins on the mobo. At least the chip is should be fine!

Well thats good to know that I couldn't have hurt the chip. But I forget if I had it oriented incorrectly and powered it up. Would that somehow short the cpu?

Ok, so my cpu actually does work now but i tested it on another motherboard. I really want to reinstall it on my old one but my old one has a couple bent pins. Im afraid that if I do try to install it on my new mobo( theon ewith bent pins) it could mess up/break the cpu. What do you guys think?
