I tried to install this game tonight and it didn't go well. First of all this is brand new, purchased today. The installer locked up at 39% while transferring files. I had to reboot machine and now can not do anything with the game. I tried to install again and it brings up a dialog to either modify, repair or remove; none of them will do anything. I can't uninstall from add/remove programs either. Anybody have any ideas to get this running?

AMD XP1600+
ECS K7S5A
2 x 128MB SDRAM
40g Maxtor
AOpen 24x10x40 CDRW
Geforce 2 MX200

Are you sure it locked up? For some strange reason this game took almost an hour to install for me! At first I thought it had locked up and re-booted, the second time I waited and sure enough it continued. I have no idea why it took so long. Could it have something to do with the internet access issue - I cannot play until I disable ZoneAlarm.

I can't remember exactly but I think I just deleted the MOHAA folder after the aborted install attempt and then re-installed.

Isnt it around 39% that it asks for the second cd?

If I remember rightly it asks for the second cd at around 48% or so.

When I try to repair it just goes to the next screen instantly and says click on finish, but nothing is fixed, still the same problem. It was completely locked at 39%, I had left the room and came back about 30 mins later and it was frozen. When I try to modify, all files are unchecked so I check all file to reinstall and it says file not found for each one. I deleted all references to the game that I can find on my system with the same results. I am going to return it to the store today as I fear the disc may be defective. Before I tried to install it, I tried to make a back-up copy with CloneCd. After trying to rip the image it was telling me it had over 8 hours remaining, so that makes me think the disc may be defective.

Nah, that will just be the copy protection, its normal that it would take that long to copy. Do you have a separate CDROM drive you can try to install it with - your CDRW drive could have a dirty laser!

Failing that, take the disc back and get a new one.

Hope you get it going soon because it really is a great game

About the install, same thing happened to me. It took a very long time to install, at least 1/2 hr on what I consider a normally fast cd-rom drive and hd.

I was able to get the installer to run again and begin the install fresh again. But, the same thing is happening again. The install is crashing. The first time it crashed at 37%; I tried again and it crashed at 35%. I then shut down all background programs except explorer and systray in WIN98SE. This time it crashed at 46%. I am very frustrated with this game. Why is it so difficult to install this freaking game?!

I have heard this before occurring at about 35%...I bet your cdrom is having trouble with the protection....is this an original or a backup of MOHAA....oops..you siad it is brand new...

do you have a cdrw or another reader you can use to install it...

Also is your system overclocked?? I had trouble before with an o/c system not allow certain files to get read properly..drop to default speed if so and see what happens.....

Also I know alot of people had trouble installing soldier of fortune..since the files were very large and if the crom read too far ahead the install got screwed...raven at work around where you decrease the supplemental cache and read ahead optimization in device manager with W95/98(before winxp)..fixed most install problems....

It is a brand new disc, in fact the second disc as I have already exchanged it once.

I am reading with my CDRW drive as it is the only one in my system; an AOpen CRW2440

Not overclocked either.

I will try the supplemental cache and read optimization and see if that helps.

Thanks.

Installed fine for me.

My system is pretty OC'ed: P4 1.8A @ 2.3 Ghz.

Took about 7 minutes for the complete install.

Tried reducing cache and read ahead; still no go. Tried a different CDROM, and old BCD 36X I had laying around. It took a long time to get going, constant spinning up and spinning down before it would read anything, then started installing and got to around 45% and instead of locking up it gave a data tranfer error of some sort and quit the install process. I took the disc out and it has a small dent in the edge almost like it had been dropped. Could this be causing the problem?

My brother had problems installing MOHAA on his pc. Win98SE as well. He never updates anything-ever. I am always having to fix his sh!t. Anyway, he had done a re-install of the OS and once again did not update anything WindozeWise. After I did the Windows update thing on his rig it installed fine. I don't know why. One of the updates is version 2.0 of windows installer. Maybe that was it, maybe not.

I run 98SE as well and MOHAA loaded fine. I could be smokin' crack but doing all the updates worked for my little bro. Could be coincidence. Just remember, technology is your friend.

I read his post. I finally got fed up and reformatted and reinstalled Win98 and the @$#%!& game will still not install. It keeps locking up the installer. I do not know what to do next.
