Help installing Win2k!!!

I'm trying to install Win2k on this system at work. After I've reformatted the HD I get this HALT error when it tries to copy the driver.cab file over to the computer. I believe it says something like: IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_ OR_ EQUAL_TO

and then it suggests to reboot, disable shadow and cache memory functions in BIOS and remove any extra hardware. Of which i've tried everything. has anyone seen this error before. I've installed Windows on several machines and this one just doesn't seem to go. I've also tried several different HD's in the machine and I get the same error. The mobo is an IWILL KA266 that uses the ALI Magik chipset and the CPU is a 1.2 athlon TB. I'm also running 386 MB DDR RAM. Any help would be great!

Does your motherboard manufacturer have any driver disks for the ide chipset they use? If so, grab them and install them when 2k starts setup by hitting F6. Thats the main cause (that I've seen) of that error during setup (using generic drivers when you need a manufacturer one).

Have you tried removing all but one stick of memory as well??? The error you are getting is caused by a hardware/driver error, period. If you've pulled all unnecessary hardware and checked the rest for updated drivers and compatibility, it sounds like they may be a problem with the hardware.

The mobo did come with some system discs but there doesn't seem to be any IDE contollers on the CD. Also I only seem to get options to load SCSI or RAID drivers, not regular IDE. Maybe i'm doing something wrong.


I haven't tried pull all but one stick of RAM yet... should have thought of that sooner. I'll give it a try.
