Hey all,

I'm looking into buying a laptop, ideally ~$1500. My requirements are pretty simple, just Core 2 Duo (although I'm open to other 64bit chips), 3 gigs of RAM, and non-onboard video. Oh, and I have absurdly large hands, so ultra-portables are out, although there don't seem to be that many in this price bracket. Have any of you who have been in the market recently found any deals or have any advice you'd like to pass on?

My wife and I each have a HP dv9000 series that we are happy with. We are not gamers; however, I use Photoshop and Sony Vegas with decent frequency. I am definitely NOT categorized as a high end computer use, so take from this what you would like! I buy computers for longevity.

Take care, good luck, and great weekend to you!

Is it 3 GB or 2 GB, your title and post are conflicting. Personally I think that finding a machine with 2GB will be easier than finding one with 3GB, so you may want to go that way.

I bought a Compal HEL-80 with a Core 2 duo T7200 CPU, 2GB Corsair RAM, Go 7600 graphics card, 15.4 inch widescreen (glossy panel) and 7200 RPM 100GB HDD, for 1400 dollars shipped.

Good deals are out there. You just have to look around.

edited because I forgot the HDD I had

Excellent reviews, and inexpensive

With the extra $$ saved, you could get a faster processor, or faster HDD.

You pay a lot for a name, but you do get good support (if you need that sort of thing).

With todays VBI (verified by Intel boards), a whitebook Notebook is a great deal. You can guarantee that the parts work, and that they are interchangeable.
