help lockup while burning

every time I try to burn anything my computer locks up completely

Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA X2
PLEXTOR 16X DVD±R DVD SATA PX-755SA
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice 2.2GHz Socket 939 Processor
aptiva 500 watt power supply
Windows Vista home premium

It did the same thing with XP pro sp2
I have already rma'd one burner

This is driving me nuts any help would be appreciated

Here is what u do:

Register a new Ebay account and pass that problematic machine on to someone else and don't look back :-0
LOL! (not really just having a laugh on your account)

Really, do u have a spare DVD burner to test with? u might c if any of friends (if u have any) (LOL) ;-))
have a spare burner... remove your DVD drive and install spare... run a test... if the same thing occurs again then I suspect your PSU to be the problem.

U'll have to do some teadious troubleshooting but hey... thats why we build our own machines, so we can OWN our own problems...

NOTE: UPDATE: just noticed your DVD drive is SATA. U may want to switch SATA slots.

P.S. My next machine is going to be a MAC with extended warranty so that if any problems should arrise, i'll just drop it off at my local mac store and let them worry about it... then I'll complain to the mac store manager that they are taking tooooo long to fix my machine.... LOL!

well I tried a diferent sata slot no go so I tried my old plextor ide cd burner worked fine

Well I'm assuming since both the hard drive and the burner use SATA this is where the problem lies much like having a hard drive with the source data and an ide burner on the same ide channel causes issues. I wonder if you need to have a separate controller (ie expansion card) for just the burner due to a badly designed motherboard.

Have you tried burning and slowing down the burner speed? Are you using nero?

I just RMA'D the sata burner and put an ide one in
