Thanks again for all the tips... I actually found an ad for a place in Marina del Rey for $850/month... 2 bedrooms! Gonna check it out tomorrow. Tonight, I'm going to take a look at a place for $550/month, not including utilities... it's near UCLA.

The ad: "EXCELLENT SPACIOUS PRIVATE BEDROOM WITH YOUR OWN BATHROOM (INCLUDING GATED PARKING) TELEPHONE LINE IS ALREADY SETUP, YOU WILL HAVE YOUR OWN TELEPHONE LINE.
CLOSE TO UCLA AND SMC CAMPUSES. FURNISHED LIVING ROOM, BUT NO PARTIES PLEASE. LOOKING FOR QUIET NON-SMOKING EASY-GOING ROOMMATE."

Peace,
Dezign

I would be prepared for another sh!thole. Unless it's some old lady just looking to fill the place.

You can check the Daily Bruin if you ever get near UCLA.

Btw, how was the recent clubbing experience?

I'm in the bay area, paying $950 includes Utilities, Cable TV, Car Port, Cable Internet, Tennis court, swimming pool, and gated community.
Wish I could find something in the $500 range.

Gawddayum. That is a LOT of money. What do you get for it? If the $850/month place turns out to be a gem, I'll get back to you on that.

The clubbing thing was okay... weak turn-out, which was kinda surprising/disappointing. It was nice hanging with an ATOT member, however briefly... Unforunately I wasn't really feeling the vibe, but I did meet up with a sweet girl and we're going out again tonight to a house club.

Peace,
Dezign

I was paying $1095 for a 1 bed in Concord. Just before we left for Sacramento they increased it to $1175.

We were paying $725 for a very nice apartment in Fair Oaks and just bought a house there. My friend in mid-town Sacramento was paying $400 for a studio but he also had to pay utilities. Sacramento is the only metro area in northern Cali where rent isn't un-freakin-believable. Don't know and don't care what rent is in So Cal.

I have a bedroom with own bathroom in the Cheviot Hills area (near National and 10 highway). I'm no longer living there, so the room is empty and I'm just paying rent cause I don't want to be an ass to my ex roommate.

I pay $675 a month. If you are interested, I can give you his number and perhaps set up an appointment to see the place. He is seldom home though because he works about 10 hrs a day. Anyhow, LMK.

i live on overland, between venice and palms. i LOOOOOve my apartment. but it's pretty pricy for that area. 1535 for 2 bedroom. but for around that area you can get pretty nice apts for around 1100-1300 (for 2 bedroom). i would stay away from ucla area..it's even more expensive for the most ghetto apts EVER. i'd agree with the person who suggested looking for guest houses..esp. in beverly hills. they are NICCCEEE and usually cheaper than an apt....and they are private. try recycler.com....i think that's the site. my friend found a guest house for 400 bucks from there.

Okay, I'm glad I don't live in the Bay... I would be living in a cardboard box on a streetcorner.

So-so luck looking at places... I found an apartment I absolutely adore for $550/month+utilities, but the girls are still interviewing roommates. I'll find out whether I get it by Wednesday... it's right off Palms, very clean, and HUGE. I'd have my own (HUGE) bedroom and (HUGE) bathroom... (its 3BD/3BATH) plus, both girls are Asian, and have the cabinets stocked with wasabi peas and other assorted Asian snacks.

Peace,
Dezign
