Maybe in Scotland, but not in the United States.
guess where i was living in the 90s .. i dropped you a hint.

and while you are at it, guess what i made money with.
Techno --

it's somewhat .. ironic? that people would quote bands like 4 Non Blondes and Green Day when talking about "good music".

spoiler alert - grunge was the Major's invention. Nirvana were the latest Monkees, from the horse's mouth. It wasn't you who decided Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were great and needed to be famous - they were created for you as a product to consume.

did the 90s have some good rock music? i think it did. for example, Phish, who ye could not get a major distribution in their own country. Every decade had good rock, even the 80s, but did you ever get to see any of it on MTV?

the 90s was dominated by techno. If you hadn't decided beforehand that it was crap and shut your ears every time it played, you would have noticed it was what everyone else was listening to.

electronic music went from underground (1987) to mainstream in 7 years.

sure, Garth Brooks still sold more. do you want to take this discussion through how record labels control the market?

none of that has anything to do with us calling your statement that it was dominated by techno false. Were there electronic/techo artists in the 90s that were successful Yes. but it was by no means the dominant genra

Grunge/Alternative (nivana, pearl gam AIC and the like)
Metal (NiN, Manson, Korn, Tool....)
Pop (MJ, madona, boy bands and so on)
Rap/hiphp - this was like the biggest time for this

those genres dominated the 90s

This. XM's Lithium is still my goto station (90s alt/grunge), and has become my favorite decade. I honestly don't remember much techno in the 90s at all.

those genres dominated whatever radio station you listened to. my guess is that you did not listen to, care about, or even know the extent to which electronic music permeated everything.
hey, i listen to jazz, i listened to a lot of jazz in the 90s, therefore the 90s were dominated by jazz. that's your argument.

Here's someone's top 100 list of best selling albums.

It might not be perfectly accurate, but I don't see a techno album on it. It does have rock, rap/hip-hop, country, pop, soundtracks, and whatever Kenny G is.

I was living in Europe from 91-95, watched a lot of MTV Europe and such. Techno was definitely popular, but sure didn't seem to be the prevalent genre in rotation.
