I have always been told by my gf that you shouldn't mix gold and silver (she works at a jewelry store, but she doesn't like gold, so she could just be biased). I would say go for the first one, since the mixing of gold and silver isn't so obvious. Do you know if your friend likes topaz? I know my gf abhors certain semiprecious gems. That style of bracelet (twisted with an open end and two decorative balls) is very popular now, also.
number 2 isnt cheesy people, its "sophisticated, and elegant", or "refined" but it'd be too plain for my girl for that money, unless its platinum
