Help me choose a TV

I know that many have recommended the Tau, so I went to Circuit City to take a look. The Samsung was right next to the Panasonic, and appeared to be much smoother in picture quality. The Panasonic appeared to be grainy and the colors didn't look right. The Samsung was also a little bit cheaper than the Panasonic.

Am I missing something?

eh.. only a 27"... personally i'd go for the Cheaper samsung.

i have a thing against samsung, so go for the panasonic.

for that price range, i would avoid buying any extending warranty protection.

however, i recommend a toshiba model if one is in your price range.

make sure you adjust the brightness levels to "normal viewing". Stores have the tv levels jacked up as high as they will go.

I'm leaning towards the Samsung, especially after the salesman said that the Panasonic is better because of the lines of digital filtering or something like that. This was after he told me that they were all running off of the exact same signal. He totally blew off the fact that the Samsung just flat out looked better. Seemed like he just wanted to make a few more bucks.

samsung has REALLY upped their TV technology. i recently picked up a 50" samsung DLP RPTV and this thing kicks major ass! best DLP in the 50" for the price range IMO. although the only really competitor was a Toshiba model. Either way you will be happy. and lik eothers said, its only 27" so just go with what you like best from your personal preferences. its not a huge investment or anything so i would not get the extended warranty either.

in store viweing is a poor way to choose a tv, especially with the way most of them are NOT calibrated to NTSC standards. You need to spend some time, preferably with a calibrated TV (using a claibration DVD) to determine if it is for you. If you are serous about buying the TV, you'd be serious about setting it up in the store exactly how you'd view it in your house.
