So far, I'm choosing from (listed below):

  • Lenovo 3000 N Series N100 - $1,095.99 - link
  • Acer Aspire AS5672WLMi with mobility x1400 - $1,149.99 - link
  • Acer Aspire AS5672WLMi with mobility x1600 - $1,069.99 - link
  • Acer TravelMate TM4404WLMi - $1,125.99 - link
  • MacBook (black matte) - $1,499 - link

Please help. I can barely tell the difference between these guys, let alone what I can expect in actual performance. There are so many different video cards and I don't know how they compare. ATI has all these crazy numbers and apparently, higher does not mean better.

Requirements:

  • Photoshop CS2 - I'm a professional photo cropper for National Geographic
  • Photoshop CS2 - I travel a lot and could imagine winding down by uploading/editing photos from my camera on my laptop
  • Photoshop CS2 - I think we get the point

What I Like:

  • Style - Sleek looking, professional case that will turn eyes
  • Lightweight - Goes along with the sleek-style
  • A bargain - Best bang for the buck!
  • Widescreen - I used to own a Dell 2405FPW (24" LCD). I miss it dearly.
  • Less heat - Do duo-cores run hotter? If so I may consider just a Pentium M if I can get more video power at the same price and weight
  • Networktivity - I wanna hook up not only to the internet but to LANs easily and quickly
  • OS X and Basecamp/Parrallel to support Windows/x86 - Goes along with networktivity
  • Your suggestions - Am I expecting too much? Am I on the dot? Let me know if you have a laptop model in mind that I might like

Acer with X1600, comes with 120gb hard drive also. Cheap, sleek, and FAST.

Macbook's have the Intel GMA950, which is rather crappy. Little less powerfull than the xpress200, which is an X300 cut in half and clocked down. Maybe that gives you a picture..

The Macbook does have a faster Core Duo, but Macbooks idle around 60 celsius so the cpu will never touch 2 GHz because of the scaling down due to heat.

Yeah, I'm really disappointed with the macbook's 64mb integrated video... it's even harder to accept when you see the macbook Pro's which come with the x1600 and start at $1999.
