The 8800GTS (G92) 512MB card offers slightly better performance than the GTX at any resolution below 2560x1600. It loses there due to the GTX's raw memory bandwidth.

The GTS (G92) would obviously be a better purchase also due to its price.

Your current GTS 640 still performs admirably so it is up to you to either get the GTS (G92) now or wait for the D9E in February.

Just my 2 cents...

If you have a GTS 640 right now I would wait to update unless you have a trade-up offer expiring soon.

I have the 320MB and I'm seriously thinking of pulling the trigger on a GTS (G92) now though.

I'm planning on getting a 24" monitor and the 320MB will just NOT be enough.

its fine for me at 1920x1200...but i have my memory clocks set higher (2.0Ghz) and a slower processor and hard drive...but again, thats my two cents. i would sit out this generation and wait for 9800 series or whatever comes out.

What games you play with your 320?

GTS 512 and GTX for the same price? What world do you live in? GTS 512 should be way cheaper and it's also slightly faster. Shouldn't be a hard choice.

There would be only 1 reason to go with a GTX over the G92 GTS and that is if you game at 2560x1600.

You don't...so...no contest.

G92 GTS!!

Wait until February, when more news of the Nvidia 9-series comes out.

You're pretty much going to "upgrade" from an 8800 to...an 8800?

A used GTX compared to a new GTSv3 is still more power hungry, hotter, and slower at any resolution except 2560x1600. So the GTS wins.

But with a 640 GTS already you are only getting about 15% performance increase. Is it really worth 350$? Then again your current GTS is depreciating fast. I would wait 3 monthes for the GeForce 9. the G92 is an incomplete (DX10 vs DX10.1) mid range chip from the geforce 9 series. The new high end Geforce9 is right around the corner and we are guessing it will be a huge performance increase... It might even be twice as fast as your current GTS instead of 15% faster. So wait for it.

However if money is absolutely not an issue, then grab the new GTS to hold you up until the GF9 arrives.

I don't think I'll be able to afford the D9E anyway so....is the G92 GTS 512MB enough for me to go get a 24" monitor?

The reviews seem to show that YES is the answer but what do you (pros) all think?

I think you are falling in to the pit which has been dug up by the long time you have to wait for the next generation. Just have some a bit more patience. Since you are already this ''far'' along the road towards the next generation, it would be silly to purchase a 8800 512mb gts when you have a 8800gts 320mb.

Yes, I would say to wait to. Your 8800 GTS is a very good card and it should serve you well until the next generation of cards. If you really want some more performance, try OC-ing it. And right now, there isn't a card on the market that is good for Crysis.

That being the case, should I just buy the G92 GTS now and enjoy it???
Since as eVGA doesn't allow step-up outside the USA anyway.

I mean...512MB is enough for 1920x1200, isn't it??
