Help me decide...speed vs cap.

I currently have Comcast, and the 300GB limit is enraging. Windstream is currently improving their network speeds in my area.

My choice is 25 Mbps (I am *REALLY* hoping they roll out 100 Mbps...but not holding my breath) from Windstream or ~90 Mbps from Comcast with the 300 GB cap.

I do typical gaming, streaming videos, downloading games from Steam, and remote backup. I am not sure what the upstream speeds are on the Windstream line. I am really considering taking the cut to bandwidth just to get rid of the cap. What would you decide?

I'm afraid I don't do much gaming, so wouldn't know how the speed difference would affect it. I'd go with the uncapped service at 25 Mbps. If Comcast announces caps in my area, I'm dropping them the day they go into effect. I don't give a damn if it means I'd have no internet access at all at home.

Thankfully, where I live our city is likely going to be rolling out municipal gigabit service. I think that will be enough to hold Comcast off.

The only thing that would be affected would be Downloading games from Steam or your remote Backups. So if you're willing to wait longer for those it shouldn't affect you much.

If you are doing more then 10 gigs a day I suppose you could go with 25 mbps if you need it but remember even with a lot of "unlimited" services they will complain if you are that much of a heavy user and could cancel your service at any time because of it.

I personally would cut my porn habit a bit as that is a bit much.

You really don't need much more then 4-5 these days for most of what you posted as steam and backup can be done while you sleep unless you are streaming 4k videos while running a game that you need lower ping on.

I would take the 25mbps hands down. 300mbps is useless if it's capped. It's like someone giving you a race car but you're not allowed to leave their driveway with it. You're never going to be able to use it to it's full potential.

Ferrari with only one litre of gas in the tank is useless. Get the unlimited.

More like a Ferrari with a missing spark plug. Top performance is gimped, but it still goes fast as shit, and handles as well as the ungimped Ferrari. You can also get it out of the neighborhood.

I wouldn't count on Windstream being 'uncapped' either

no one offers truly unlimited

Personally I'd stick w/ the faster service, but I don't think I'd come close to the cap so that'd be a non factor for me. If you're coming close to the cap then go to the slower service.

What are the costs for each service and overage charge for Comcast?

ATT U verse caps their overage charge at $20. Unlimited after that, I will hit like 2TB this cycle.

Isn't that a recent development and you have to basically set it up that way? In the past it was $10 for every 50GB over the cap. But I know some have started offering you being able to pay extra and get actual unlimited. I thought that was Comcast though.

His Comcast deal is 90 MBPS, the cap is 300 GB, there is a difference.

How many people are using your connection? If its just you then unlimited at 25Mbps is better then 100Mbps with a limit.

I have 50Mbps service but have several users and do not notice any slow downs.

My ISP (CableOne) keeps cranking up/marketing faster speeds at the same price ($75) for the last 3 years. I started at 50mbps and I am now at 150mbps, unfortunately the upload speed has always been 5mbps and they cap me at 400GB. If I could get a 20mbps+ with faster upload speed and no cap for the same price I would dump them in a hurry.
