Hey all,
I'm looking for to replace my 60mm HSF (too noisy) with an NMB 80mm 3110 (very quiet). As a goofy experiement, I tried simply disconnecting the power of the 60mm fan, then placing my 80mm fan on top of the 60mm fan, and pluggin in the 80mm of course. I then watched the cpu temp gradually rise to 60 degrees celsius (and probably higher if I'd let it run longer) - my question is this: is there a safe way to simply mount the 80mm fan on top of the existing plastic fan, or does that not create enough airflow close enough to the chip?
Also, what is the highest safe temp you can run an Athlon 1.2 ghz at anyway?
What HS would take my NMB if I can't just mount my 80 on top of my 60mm? Cheap is the name of the game.
Thanks in advance,
GS
