Help me find a cheap, good CD-RW drive

My friend is looking to get a CD-RW drive, but she doesn't want to spend too much. Performance is not too big of an issue, it isn't like she needs a 12x10x32 drive. Rebates, coupons, whatever it takes. Help me out!!

I recently purchased a Plextor 8x4x32 for $150 from Staples, I pricematched Buy and used a coupon. went from $280 to 150 not too bad.

You'd be a foo not to get the 12/10/32 Plexxy. Why waste your money on anything else? You'll eventually pay with the coasters you make. And then whats worse than suggesting a burner for a friend, and then having to provide tech support cuz they can't burn properly? Makes u look bad too...I pity da foo! =(

Ahsia, I just bought a Plextor 8x/4x/32x from buy.com for $162 shipped. If you buy a CDR pay the little extra for a plextor!

I bought Creative CDRW8432 from buy.com for $137.95 - $30 ($30 off $150) + free shipping = $107.95 delivered. Not the best CD-RW drive but works great. I think good price for a brand drive.

That is actually what I am aiming, that Plextor 12x10x32 with Burnproof technology. My current CD-RW Yamaha 4416S is killing me. That thing has been making this loud, vibrating noise for about two months now. It burns CDs just fine, but the noise is impossible to handle.

But my friend is looking looking to upgrade and wants to spend about $500 for a CPU, memory, and CD-RW. So I'm look for the best deal for her.

Save yourself a lot of aggravation and get a Plextor. The best tools are always the cheapest in thelong run.

Staples still has some acer ones left if you look around $129, but I agree the plextor sounds better at $150..
