Help me find a decent 20.1" WS LCD...with a glossy screen!

I am looking for a 20.1" LCD with a glossy screen, similiar to the NEC 20WMGX2. I am using the monitor for CAD use, along with web and spreadsheet usage. I am not a heavy gamer, although I have a pretty decent gaming rig for when I have the time to hop into some BF2. I know that many of you will automaticly tell me to get the 20WMGX2, but it is out of my price range. After using three of the latest WD LCDs on the market (Gateway FPD2185W, Dell 2007WFP, Viewsonic VX2025wm), I have decided that I need to have a non matt finish. I suffer from a rare type of vestibular migraine, and for some reason a matt finish seems to hurt my eyes and cause my head to hurt if I stare at it during web browsing, espcially on the forums here. It is hard to explain, however it seems like every one of the monitors I've tried has like a screen door effect, and I simply cannot stand it. I do not have this problem when using my Dell 9300 and it's 17" WS, so I think its the monitor's finish for sure. I have been shopping around, and the only glossy screen LCD I can seem to find in my budget (under $450 USD) are two different models from ACER. The AL2032W A and the 2051W. Both seem to offer the same specs, and can be had locally for under $450. I am so tired of buying LCD's and trying them out, so this time I need to get a glossy screen. Does anyone have any experience with these models, or can suggest another option?

Thanks,

Josh

i have had the al2032w and it does not have a glossy screen.

i have a lcd1770gx-bk. and well, its night and day man. night and day difference.

dont know about the 2051w. i think the 20wmgx2 is the only glossy screen over 19" and it is really expensive.

Hanns, thanks for the reply. I was at a local Acer retailer today, and an 99% certain that I looked at the AL2032W, and it had a glossy screen. The 2051W was right next to it, and they both had the same screen appearance. According to Acer's website, both models have the Acer CrystalBright technology, which is their fancy way of saying a glossy screen finish. I guess I will have to double check the model number tomorrow to make sure I wasn't viewing another model. When you mention the LCD1770gx-bk and state "it's night and day," what exactly do you mean? Are you comparing the image quality of the NEC you have to the Acer? I looked at the LCD2070WNX-BK online, and it seems like a great choice, however I cannot determine if it has a glossy screen or not. Their tech support didn't seem to be much help.

Would you be referring to the LG LG L203WTX by any chance? I had looked at this monitor and the specs seemed quite nice, however I didn't think it was a glossy screen. If it is indeed glossy, then you have solved my problem!

the 2070wnx-bk doesnt have a glossy screen. only the gx models have it. that would be the 20wgxm2 and the 90gx the 70gx and the older 1770gx and 1970gx.

unless they came out with a new al2032w, i am pretty certain it doesnt have it. glossy screen is like... a mirror almost. the al2032w i actually thought had pretty dull colors and i sold it. its the one with a glossy frame and a solid metal base. it is a very stylish monitor though.

what i mean by night and day is, if you have a normal monitor compared to one with the glossy screen, if you have your light conditions right, it looks way better. the glossy ones tend to have really good colors and contrast and much more even brightness in myopinion.

Hello,

I'm not sure but I think the Benq FP202w has a glossy screen. "Senseye" or something like that. It is a TN panel though, I don't know if that is what you want. It should be in your price range and is a 20" WS display.

i have the opposite preference. i like the styling of the Sony LCD monitors but not their glossy finish on the screen. maybe a Sony would be good for your own vision situation.

Thanks for the input raven, but I think I'd rather stay away from Benq. I have read quite a few reviews regarding the backlight bleeding issues with them. WWswimming, I looked at a few Sony's, but they are quite pricey.
