The SureFire 6P was my first and it's great for it's time, 60Lumens for an hr with 2x CR123 batterys but I much prefer the E1B for myk purposes. Dual 5lumen and 80lumen modes, and only one battery so the 2 batteries that I leave in my bag is plenty of usage. They are both built really well and are great in the hand. 5/80 are bright enough for me and provide good enough light time.

The Fenix TK-10 looks very interesting. I got to read some more on it

I really appreciate the qualityand the build of these things. Do I need it? Hell no. I don't do anything mission critical that needs it but they are very nice to have. We went on a camping trip and a buddies cheapo ebay know off led flashlight dropped and broke and stopped working. Most should have worked after but his didn't . The 80lumen beam at night in the forest near the river was stunning

Koing

Do you find the E1B's 80 lumen beam bright enough? I'm still not sure if it is bright enough for me or not.

It's definately better then the 60 lumns of the 6P I have. For my purposes it's plenty but it may not be for you. I can just give my personal opinion and for me when out camping it's plenty bright and when I need to peak with hit in the car. The other week when it snowed in England and we were sledging down hill it was fantastic. My head torch was also very good.

I'm looking at Fenix stuff now on ebay. They look very good! This has stirred my interest in torches again

It's never a need, it's always a want . It seems over the top and it obviously is in most people's cases but people just want 'nice' stuff. I don't mind paying for a quality torch. Some guys it's speakers, tvs, computer bits etc.

I currently don't need it on a regular basis or for my job per se, but there are many times during my day when it would have been helpful. I am doing an internship with our network admin team, and it definitely would help at times looking in dark areas (under the raised floor for example). One of the main reasons, is that I volunteer at Quakecon each year and the entire event is lights out. Being part of the tech support team, I do a lot of stuff where we need a decent light.

Also, when I had my A2 I definitely liked just carrying it knowing if I needed a bright light, I had one ready. Yes I know that I don't *need* a high powered light, but if one day I get in a situation where I need one I'd rather have it then not.

Oh crap. I have all those vices.....

Yeah, Koing has basically nailed it. I don't *need* a high powered/quality light where my life depends on it, but I want one none the less

I just got a Fenix TK11 R2 a few weeks ago it was my first high end LED light and I have been very impressed by it.It has more power than a 2 D Maglite in the size on a Mini Maglite. It was $80-$90 so a little lower than a Surefire.

does it shine light the same as my 5.99 one from walmart?

Does a £1000 speaker sound 5x better then a 200 speaker?

If you don't notice the quality then you don't or if your not willing to pay for it don't.

I wouldn't spend £200 on a torch but £50-80 I can see myself for the right one

Well I should be buying a BNIB Surefire E1B Backup for $90 shipped. Just waiting for PP to clear for him to ship. I'll take some pics of what "normal"/"cheap" lights look like vs it once I get it.

Koing, I have the L1D(Q5 bulb), which has 4 levels of output from the one battery and I have the L2T with 2 AA, an extended light output with just one level- both are good lights.
I carry an L0D on my keychain, an incredible one AAA light- but I have the "twist switch" power control taped down with electrical tape because of it's habit of turning on in my pocket.
Yes,,,, I am a flash-a-holic>

Cheers for the info, thats about swayed my take on it

http://www.fenixtorch.co.uk/le...ches/fenix_l1d_q5.html I'll get 2, one for me and one for my bro. A nice torch is always useful, this one uses normal AA battery's so that'll be better for him.

The L2T looks tasty but I'd think I'd go for the L2D instead. A bit brighter and more flexibility in it's lighting. I'm more of a fan of at least 2 modes but then again how useful is this:

General Mode: 12 lumens (55hrs) - 53 lumens (10.5hrs) - 107 lumens (4hrs) + SOS Morse Code Signal

http://www.fenixtorch.co.uk/le...ches/fenix_l2d_q5.html

The L2T:
High power = 152 lumens - 2.4 hour runtime.
Low power = 16 lumens 32 hour runtime.

hmmmmmmm...all about how you use it 16lumens for 32hr is pretty badass! You get a longer burn time of 2.4hr at 152lumns, instead of the 180lulmens @ 1.8hrs

Actually if I was in the market for a 2x AA torch I'd get the L2T as 152lumens at 2.4hr is savage as well as the very solid 32hr at 16 lumens. It's a tough call depending on preferences.

I was thinking on the L0D also also and I just noticed :
http://www.fenixtorch.co.uk/led_torches/fenix_ld01.html
!!!!

The 6P gets no love now a days and the E1B is always in my bag.

I just picked up a E2d LED defender on ebay for $125 shipped, really nice light. I love the low mode on it as well, sometimes 120 lumens is too much.

Best bang for the buck brand out there.

Crazy bright lights that are decently priced.

Do all you research you want but in the end, chances are you'll conclude like many do that they're the best choice.

Check out http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/

I have that light. It has 3 brightness modes and 2 strobe modes. It uses 2 CR123's and is plenty bright for any 'normal' use and then some. For the amount of money you are looking to spend I'd get that light I linked or something similar, test it out to see if you like it and hopefully save over $150. If you don't like it, sell it on Ebay and spend $200 on a flashlight if it'll make you happy. But I'm willing to bet the light I linked above does everything lights costing nearly 10x the price can do, and is just as bright.

I just picked up a E2D LED on the CPF marketplace for $105 shipped with the F04 diffuser that fits both the E1B I already ordered, AND the E2D LED (also covers the strike bezel ). I'm pretty sure I now will have a wide range of options once I get both

5, 15, 80, 120 lumens all in a fairly tight beam with little flood, and then throw on the diffuser if need be and get that in a nice flood beam.

I'm not sure how I'll like the clicky tailcaps, and may buy the twisty ones to replace it (the kind that was on my A2).

Mid next week I'll be having fun with my new lights

this guy seems to know how to get a flashlight better than the surefire for $10 with a bit of hacking and ingenuity.

Yeah, but there is a lot more to it then just how bright it is.

Yeah, I shipped your E2DL out this morning! LOL! I picked up one of those custom HA 6Ps' that guy was selling but Its a little too light for my taste. I guess I'll stick to my E1L and C2-HA for now......

Everybody should just get a Fenix L2D. It's pretty much the perfect flashlight. No CR123s to worry about. Deal flat regulation. Wide range of brightness options. Extremely efficient and works well with "dead" AA batteries. Easier to grip and greater than twice the runtime of a single cell light. It's a no brainer to me at 50 bucks.

I'm not a flashlight GURU, but please elaborate.

Better build quality. I don't mind paying for the quality knurling and more robust metals. It's also splash/ water proof.

Depending which ones you get you can mod them easily (yes you can mod mag lights also).

i never get the waterproof argument.

take a normal flashlight, submerge it underwater. it will still work.
