Help me find a game?

I'm finally upgrading my video subsystem so I'd like to find an enjoyable title(s). The last game I really liked was Mass Effect 2. I liked the adventure of it. I didn't play ME1, so that's a possibility, but I'd also like a game that will make use of modern hardware with all the graphic splendor. Are there any Star Wars games that would contain that type of adventure? I'm not up on most games anymore and I know I can read reviews, but I wanted to know what you guys think.

I also enjoy MS Flight Simulator, so I might try X-Plane, and although driving sims can be fun, I'll never get a wheel, and the joystick doesn't work too well with them.

Games I don't like are like Elder Scrolls where everything is repetitive, or realistic warfare games. Is the open world of GTA V compelling? Open world is good. I liked the first couple hours of Far Cry, but it too got repetitive.

Ideas for a guy like me?

Right now I'm rockin' a Radeon 5850(!) (used to be two in Xfire, but one died) which will be replaced by the MSI 980TI Gaming (although I'll be running it quiet and cool at 1Ghz), which is on its way from Amazon.

It's going in a 4930K system (again at stock) with 16GB/1600 and an Intel 750 SSD for programs, games, and cache/VM.

My screen is a 27" 1440 model (Dell U2711 - which has been a workhorse), but I may upgrade it to a 1440 G-sync one if the right one comes out.

Why not play ME1 and ME3? I just finished ME1 and imported character into ME2 I played ME2 years ago, but never played ME1 or ME3. As for new games, I agree Witcher 3 is probably the best game out there (RPG). Witcher 2 also a good game with pretty demanding specs. Too bad Microsoft decided to make Halo games exclusive to XBox. Some are quite good...I played Halo 1 years ago and really liked it. Kind of ironic since Microsoft is known for computer innovation!

Thanks, I agree about MS. A while ago they teased a new version of Flight Sim with incredible artist renderings, and if it was 64 bit and was able to load all those textures into RAM it would be amazing. But it was to never be.

As a Media Center user with networked cable card tuners I won't be upgrading to Win OSX any time soon. When companies like this stop listening to their customers you know they are only listening to the shareholders and bean counters - so sad. It makes me want to switch to Linux.

Here's a gem most people won't know about. I noticed you mentioned realistic military shooters, so I point you to ArmA 3. You get your bang for your buck with the countless mods for it that give you endless game modes and types. More specifically, the Deliverance mod on ArmA 3, which is a FPS story that is better than cod or BF in my opinion. Here's a vid of the beginning if you are interested.

Thanks but I actually said I don't like realistic military games - the screenshots I see from them remind me too much of the horrors I see on the six o'clock news.

Thanks all for the recommendations. I remember now why it's so hard for me to find a game; the screenshots won't necessarily reveal poor gameplay. So I start to read reviews but have to set them aside when they go into the story line. I like to be surprised.

Instead of reading reviews look at TotalBiscuit's WTF is series on Youtube. He gives a pretty good look at the game mechanics while actively avoiding any story spoilers (where possible, and where not he warns you ahead of time to skip the next bit if you don't want to be spoiled.)

Lets see some games; as you like rpgs

Shadowrun Returns - *standard shadowrun game; well written but all the player made games that rules; a couple issues but game so well done*
Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall - this was RPG of the year for 2014 for me; if not game of the year - improves everything and fixes the small issues from Returns. The story is just that damn awesome.
New Shadowrun Returns: Hong Kong; looks to be even more awesome its fairly soon to be released.

Pillars of Eternity. Freaking awesome old school rpg from Obsidian; aka most of former black ilse guys/gals

Wasteland 2 - another awesome rgp; few issues when first came out but that's been patched and they are still working on balancing things

Plants vs Zombies Garden warfare - stupidly fun FPS - you can easily loose an hour on before you know it. Its just a blast.

Witcher 3 - awesome rpg...one to play.

Dragon Age: I - *hell the whole dragon age series* another really good rpg.

Victor Vran - action rpg like original Diablo and Diablo II - seriously digging the story and dungeons are a blast and a challenge.

Ronin - turn based - ninja awesomeness puzzle game of doom. Seriously a lot of fun

Unepic - old school kinda style rpg; massive amount of humor - and is brutal. I so love it.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut - love this game; playing through again recording......make sure its the director's cut as so many things are improved and dlc is included.
