Help me find the title or author of a book

I need some help on locating the title or author of a book.
Didn't know where to post this. So i'll ask off topic.

Its fantasy base with wizards and magic.
Its about a man whos a detective and he solves these crimes in this underground city.
He himself is unknown but always goes to the local bar there.

His mother is some type of god and is comign to destroy humanity.
Oh yeah Merlin also plays a role in latter novels.

not much to go on but if anyone remembers?

some parts of this fit the Harry Dresden novels by Jim Butcher, but some of your details don't gel.

I just checked and read about the Harry Dresden Novels and nope they aren't it.

Man I hate not remembering.

Post what it is when you find out - it sounds good, but like jonks said, it sounds a lot like the Dresden files.
