Help me hack into my old hard drive...

I recently bought a new HD and installed windowsXP. I hooked up my old HD as a slave in order to copy over some large files from it. The problem is that I'm not able to access the Documents and Settings/Michael folder where all my files are saved. I get a message saying that it's not accessible, access is denied. I'm assuming the problem is that I had a password for my account on my old hard drive. How can I hack into the folder?

Thanks,

can you reach it from a administrators account, or maybe from the CLI?

If the folder is just password protected and not encrypted then there's still hope.

Go here and download the software. It will allow you to build a fully functional OS running off a bootable CD (you'll need your original Windows XP or XP Home CD). With it you will be able to access your hard drive using the system account. And that will allow you to by-pass any NTFS security. It won't work if the files are encrypted though.

I don't know. I never applied a password to the folder when I was running my old drive, but my windowsXP user account had a password. I'm guessing that the the documents and settings file for my old account is restricted to only that account. If I use that PE software will I be able to copy files from the old drive to the new by drag/drop?

thx guys,

If they were encrypted (and you didn't back up the encryption key) you are sunk because your new install has a different key. If the user rights aren't correct do what mikecel79[b/] said an regain permission over the file.
