have you tried finding a guild? that's what makes the game for me, my guildmates.

A great guild is essential. Unfortunately, not many low level guilds on established servers

I am not even going to read your post or the other posts here before saying you don't want to like wow. That's how bad it is, you really don't want anyone to help you get started down that path. Just thinking about it makes me want to install it again.

I know that if I did I would only play for a little while before getting bored with it since everyone I knew quit playing. But the urge is still deeply ingrained in me and I don't want to have to spend 15$ to remind myself why I don't play.

There are so many other things you can do with your time.

time greater than skill is boring and stupid. Perfect for most people. No matter how bad you are, if you keep 'playing' you will, get better, for lack of a better term. Because the more time you run around clickign on people in an arena the more points you get.

Just a horrible way to keep people addicted. Works very well though. So funny the game doesnt start till 80 lol.

Another thing that bothers me nowadays is people who play wow consider themselves gamers.

Just quit and don't look back...

As someone who play for a year and permaquit 2 weeks ago...The endgame in patch 3.2 simply isn't fun to worth the effort, and you will meets tons of assholes who think they are good in the game but actually arent just because Blizzard gave em a handout in free epics.

wow...where are those "free" epics you are talking about?

This season SUCKS because without arena you can only get 'that' far. Deadly gear is still 2 seasons behind relentless. WG rewards are ok, but too few. Triumph badges take a LOOOOONG time...and conquest badges rewards suck too. (Deadly sh**y gear for conquest badges? <--- big joke...)

Not really "free" epics ATM.

No matter how you turn it..you need to put in a LOT of time and grinding to get halfway good gear.

That's why you join a guild which does raids/heroics. This is what's 85% of the fun w/ WoW. Its NOT a solo game...except levelling...but really blizz has a high priority that many things can only be achieved in a team.

WoW is a terrible game for the new user. Left there recently. It's boring, no one wants newer players in their dungeon groups, and Blizzard simply doesn't care.

EDIT:

My first experience with MMORPG's was Guild Wars. I know, not exactly the prime example of an MMORPG, but I liked it. After getting kind of bored with it, taking a few breaks, and a bunch of the players leaving the game creating a less group oriented environment unless one finds the right guild, I decided to look for other MMORPGs.

I played EvE online for a few months. Eventually I realized that I really was going to have to wait a LOONG time to be good and enjoy any sort of PvPing, and all the CORPS I joined with big promises were miserable. Just people getting 1mil ISK for every person they recruit so they promise you the world.

I also played WoW for a month or two. I only really got to level 20. Honestly, it was like pulling teeth. I boot up the game, and I dreaded the work I was going to have to do. Even at such an early level. Quests were all the same and made me run all the way to some place to kill and collect and bring back. Over and over. I just couldn't stand the prospect of having to do this even MORE. Also, I feel like with all the expansions and stuff I'm just so far behind. Maybe I picked the wrong servers or something but I didn't even have a clue where to go to level up. I had to step by step read guides on where to go to level which levels. I just felt overwhelmed by the massive world and how developed it was, and everyone was running around leveling for themselves and not really interacting.

Anyway, everyone says WoW is tops. I've tried Aion and honestly it has its own bundle of flaws. Tried AoC, and didn't really like it.

What am I doing wrong with WoW? How come everyone says OHH WOWCRACK and I can't even force myself to like it?

This sentence here, 'I only really got to level 20. Honestly, it was like pulling teeth.' pretty much tells me you will not enjoy any type of MMO game since they all require leveling up or 'grinding' as some people call it. Leveling with others makes the process easier and more enjoyable but your post pretty much tells me you are not into these types of games especially considering the first 20 levels of any MMO is the easiest part. Just my opinion based on what you wrote.

I'm inclined to agree with this assessment.

Why do you HAVE to like WoW? Save yourself $15/mo and thank your lucky stars you won't be part of that large, pimply group of nerds.

I just started a new character and the low levels are really really boring, but only because I'm not excited about what's up ahead - exploring the different worlds, building up a tradeskill. It's my 4th alt and I have no goal but to level and level as quickly as possible. Try to enjoy the content every step of the way, is my advice.

I think he means "gamers" in the sense that they actually have skill in gaming. Play lot's of games and are actually pretty good at them.

I did end game raiding at 60 and that was hard. At 70, for The Burning Crusades, I was a GM and main raid leader for my guild and raiding was easier. Then Wrath hit and at 80 I stepped down and was main raid leader still for my guild and raiding was a total joke and you just slaughtered bosses. Maybe PvP isn't up to par anymore, but people that don't PvP get free epics galore.

The last guild I was in was the #2 Alliance on my server and most hardmodes in Ulduar were a joke and loot was disappointing to say the least. I quit cold turkey due to WoW being catered to casuals when they made normal raiding super easy. The only hard part in that game was SOME hard modes due to people not listening but still regular stuff was cake.

Quoted for the mother fucking truth. You could do a lot more with $15.00 than world of work raft. That could easily go for hookers and blow.

I had a ton of fun playing WoW. Like you I didn't like it at first either, but I kinda stuck with it and something just clicked. I'd pinpoint where the obsession started at around level 15 or 20ish with a combination of character development, quest plot and the really nice scenery of elwynn, westfall, and redridge mountains that together just made the game enjoyable and something I could stick with. I have some toons now at 80 that I don't play anymore with countless hours invested into raiding at 60 and 70, but some of my fondest memories of the game were during my 1-60 grind. But only the first time around. Grinding got old real fast for all the alt characters I made.

Mmmmm, hookers. I may be out of the times on the drug scene, but is cocaine still popular with the rich kids? I was under the impression it's all about heroin and grandpa's pain meds now. I must be getting old.

I think WoW was a good game at one point, when the community was tight knit (I wasn't around for that). But I played for 3 months, got to level 80, and the game was over. It may be bad timing at the mid point between 2 releases, but I thought it was a horrible game. Just a grind, couldn't find groups to do runs because they wanted everyone over geared, higher levels with nothing better to do but gank lower levels, and the guilds I tried all wanted later content. I have dark feelings for Blizzard.

If you aren't playing with RL friends, or have been playing WoW for such a long time that your guild mates are practically RL friends, WoW is a very very boring and lame game and will never get better.

I used to play. My advice is to quit right now. I quit cold turkey and it's amazing what sunshine and female vaginas can do for you.

Man if you could only see some of the hot chicks in our guild. Not uncommon either. I don't know how or why they play so much but they do.

as others have said, i really enjoyed WoW for ~2 yrs. Mostly before TBC expansion. I bought the game a couple months after it came out. Mostly played warrior, main tanking MC, BWL, onyxia with a pretty good guild that had some of my best RL friends.

Sure, it was at times frustrating with the 40 man guild runs, but it was a lot of fun too, learning the game, learning the instances and boss fights, running the old dungeons (scholo, Dire Maul) for gear & drops etc. It was a much simpler game then.

I tried going back off and on to try and recapture that old feeling but it's never was the same, back in those early days.

I enjoyed playing WoW for about a year.
I think your primary problem with WoW is that you're not really experiencing the multiplayer aspect. That's the part which makes it fun. Without the multiplayer aspect, it really does feel like just a grind. You didn't mention it, but you should definitely try out the first "instance" (whose name I can't remember), but it ends with attacking MOBs on a pirate ship. You really feel like part of team, and the first time I completed it, it was a totally awesome feeling.

Forgive me for pimping my MMORPG of choice, but now I prefer Dungeons & Dragons Online, which has now gone to a "free" to play model. I personally find the combat far more exciting, and player skill is a definite factor.

Unless they've changed things in WoW since I played, it is much much easier to find people to group with in DDO. Also, unlike WoW, there are no "Go halfway across the world and Bring me 30 boar pelts" types of quests.

Why do you feel like you have to like it? If you don't like it, don't play it. I don't see what the problem is.
