Ok coworker has a wedding at 6 pm tonight Reception at 7 pm. I have been working with this guy for ~ 5years now. We are acquaintances and get along at work. A guy I was supposed to be riding with backed out and I have to drive 2 hours to this wedding. Wife and child can not go due to an adult only reception. I did tell the guy getting married I would be going, but just found out yesterday I would have to be working at 6 am on Sunday to fill his spot. I moved departments and he now has my old job, so have been instructed that I would be taking his place. I have been on vacation and was supposed to show back up on Monday. This guy did not show to my wedding 4 years ago. Should I go or do I have valid reason to backout??.

Where you invited or would you be inviting yourself?

If you're not inviting yourself I would go. If you're filling his old position he can be a great ally and make the transition much easier.

Don't go. 2 hours is too long a drive to have to work at 6am. Send him your congratulations, and your regrets at not being able to attend.

I doubt he'd notice whether you came or not. That's not going to be what he's worrying about on his damn wedding night.

I can think of few things more thoughtless than saying you'll attend a wedding then not showing up. I was at a wedding last weekend that had seating for 80 people at the reception and there were 20 no-shows. I'm sure the couple would have liked to have saved the $400 they paid for food, hors d'oeuvres, drinks, servers, etc. which went to waste. They know who didn't come, there were place cards for each person.

Yeah, 2 hours is a long drive, I know. I would go to the wedding, show face at the reception, explain to someone that you have to leave early because you're covering his shift Sunday morning, then head home.

Sucks that your friend backed out, shame on him if he said he would attend.

Things come up and Im sorry two hours is a long way to drive when I got to cover this dude's work at 6am. I feel bad, but at the same time I will not stress myself about it.

wtf? 2 hours is not that long of a drive. If you already confirmed that you're going, go.

Two hours is a very long drive. That's 4 hours both ways, or ~25% of the waking day. Also, he's filling in for his buddy at work, and cutting his vacation short to do so. That's more than enough to fill his obligation.

You didn't find out about that until after you said yes, correct? If so that's a valid excuse.

wtf? 25% .. only if you're geriatric and "need" 8hrs of sleep.

i'm 37.. and get by fine on 4-5 hrs of sleep... you KIDS should be able to do it on less.

wimpy fucktards.
