Ok, yesterday my cousind downloaded Kazaa off the internet. Later for some reason MSword would not work. So he tried deleting Kazaa and eventually got it removed. Now however, whenever you start MS word the computer locks up. I'm not exactly sure what he did to the computer , but I figured it could be fixed easily. I unistalled MSword and got them a fresh copy of Office 2000. Everything went fine. But when I rebooted the computer to tests it Word crashed!!! Every program worked fine: Excell, Powerpoint, Outlook etc. But for some reason Word still crashed. The error I recieved was something along the line of user.exe missing or corrupted...or something like that. My question is: Is there anyway I can fix this without having to reinstall windows? and What the hell is happening?

Try doing a search for the error file than look at the path. That should give you a better idea if it is a windows or word problem. Then search the CD and copy the file over to the correct location. Reinstalling windows is not a big deal. It won?t change your setting, but that may not replace the file anyway. What OS are you using? Can you use restore? Can you be more specific on the error message?

Try deleting all your temp files first. See if any of those currupted Word. If you have Norton Utilities, delete files in Protected Recycle Bin, too. See if that works.

The operating system is Windows Millenium Edition. I'm not at my cousin's house right now so I can't tell you exactly what the error message says. Iti: When you say temporary files, exactly what are you refferring to? I'm pretty sure they have norton antivirus, so I'll have to check up on that.

Temporary files are loaded when you install new programs or when you download files from the internet. Sometimes some of those temp files gets corrupted or corrupts other programs. I've certainly experienced that a few times in some of the Office applications. Most of those temp files you don't need after installation or uploading. Not sure how it is for Millenia, but for Windows XP and 2000, you can go to START, PROGRAM, ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS, DISK CLEAN UP, and that should remove temp files.

I was referring to Norton Utilities, that provides a protected recycle bin, for those like me who are quick in deleting stuff. The protected recycle bin may contain corrupted files or files conflicting with your Office application. So, empty that bin as well.

Use the restore program in ME. Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System tools than restore to an earlier time.

If you're unable to use the system restore like Doordie says, I recommend for you to first go to www.windowsupdate.com and patch up your system. Then on the left hand side of the site, click Office Updates and service pack your Office (after reinstalling of course). Who knows, maybe the service pack for office or a patch will address this.

good luck!

Kazza has a program that gets installed if you choose full install its called New net or something like that. When I had that program on my PC it crashed. It took me awhile to get the darn thing off. Kept crashing when ever I tried to remove it from the control Panel in add and remove programs. If you want to use Kazza go for the lite version. Do a search for Kazzalite. No adds + No spy ware! =
