I just adopted a 10 month old female Jack Russel Terrier mix from the Orange County Humane Society in Huntington Beach, CA Saturday and I'm picking her up this afternoon (she's getting spayed and ID chipped today). My GF and I have been trying to think of a good name for her all weekend and I still haven't decided on anything. I'd really like to pick something before I pick her up. Here are the promised pictures:

Pic Five

She looks and acts like a Jack Russel Terrier/Italian Greyhound mix (from the long face, curved rear haunches, smaller size, leaner body and more laid back (and semi-skittish) behavior) but should could be almost pure JRT as well. Anyone more familiar with the two breeds have an opinion? Not that I care one way or the other, just wanting to know out of curiousity.

Thanks ATOT.

UPDATE:

Well, as posted below I chose Tesla. I think it fits the breeds personality and it sounds nice.

The drugs from being spayed finally wore off late last night and she started chasing bugs around before bedtime. This morning I played with her a bit and she's almost up to full speed. She was completely ignoring her squeaky ball until I showed her it squeaks and then she went nuts for it. Unfortunately what I got was a bit too big for her so she can barely pick it up unless she stretches her mouth open fully and bites the side.

Also got to test wether or not she's a barker this morning. The neighbor next door is having landscaping done and there were guys working on the other side of the fence. You could hear them talking and moving around and it obviously interested Tesla but she only went over for a second and didn't bark at all, even though she couldn't see where the voices were coming from. Pretty rare for a Jack Russel mix to be like that.

Only negative so far is that I gave her a greenie yesterday when she was drugged up and she took it to the flower bed and it started to look like she was going to bury it. Digging would be a very bad thing considering how much money was just spent on landscaping. Not that we'd get rid of her over that, we'd just have to put up some fencing or something.

I love my Tesla!

well, she's 10 months old. i'm sure she already has a name - you don't want to confuse her by changing it again.

The shelter had no listed name, they made one up for her. That's generally the way it works at shelters.

I think you should name it "Dammit" since that's going to be your word of choice while trying to keep a Jack Russell mix out of trouble.

Actually, she's very mellow for a 10 month old JRT (and no, she wasn't drugged at the time ). We had her out twice and she barked a total of 5 times. Two barks while I carried her by a row of barking dogs in kennels (two quick ones at once out of the 3 times I walked her by those noisy kennels) and three barks at a passing dog (though she didn't bark at two other dogs or any of the people). She would occasionally even stand still without being held which is amazing for a 10mo JRT just out of a kennel.

I'm decent at training dogs and I'll be starting training as soon as she's recovered from being spayed. She's much less hyper than my Grandmother's much older JRT. Of course, she could surprise me when I get her home but I should be able to handle it.
